Veterans Funeral Care Anne Gerken

Anne passed away peacefully June 1 at Hospice Brookside. A native of Richmond, VA, Anne and her family were residents of Harbor Bluffs near Largo for 46 years. She was the eldest of 2 daughters of Dumont and Fitz Martenstein and survived her late husband Gil after 62 years of marriage.

She is survived by daughter Dumont Owen, Cleveland; and sons Gilbert Gerken Jr., Savannah, and Austin Gerken, Brandon; grandson Austin Gerken Jr., and two great granddaughters, Ruby Grace & Edie Marie (Asheville).

Anne was a life-long volunteer including work as a nurses aide in several US Air Force hospitals and most recently at Bay Pines Veterans Hospital in St. Petersburg. She also donated much of her time to the Pinellas County Historical Society (Heritage Village) where she was volunteer coordinator for many years. Other activities included cofounder and president of the Ponce de Leon Chapter of International Questers and president of the local alumni chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority (Longwood, University). In later years, she worked as a nurse with the mobile nursing unit of Morton Plant Hospital. She started her career as a bookkeeper with the C&O Railroad in Richmond, and did bookkeeping for Aero-Com Systems, an avionics company co-owned by her husband.

For those who wish, donations may be made in her memory to Anona United Methodist Church, Largo, and the Pinellas County Historical Society. A memorial service will be held at Anona Methodist Chapel at 3 pm, Thurs, June 13, 2013.
