Anthony A. Viola, 91, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Bay Pines Veterans Hospice Unit in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and was a World War II Army combat medic with the 493rd Med Coll Co. He served in five European battles, including D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge, and was at Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe, where he received a silver battle star, four overseas service bars, a service stripe, and good conduct medal.
Anthony was an avid baseball fan of the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, and has passed his passion of the game to those he loved.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elsie; his daughter, Barbara and the late Robert Clark; his sons and families: David A., Michelle, David and Joy Viola, and Louis and Rose Viola; his sister, Adelaide Randazzo; eight grandchildren; Angela and Robert, David, Robert, Marie, Shannon, Violet, Rena, Chris and Christine. Fourteen great-grandchildren; Nathan, Jade, Tommy, Ben, Sara, Emily and Amanda.
Military honors will be conducted from Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at 12:30pm on Friday, February 29, 2008.
