Barry W. Strike, 65, US Army-Vietnam War Veteran-SP5 of Punta Gorda, FL, formerly of Warwick, RI, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Friday, June 13, 2014.
Barry served in the US Army for 6 years between September 11, 1968-September 5, 1974. A portion of his tour was in Vietnam in Nha Trang with the logistic support unit of the 57th Signal Company, where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Barry was also awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Device, Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Service Stars. Barry could have received a Purple Heart, but he humbly declined to receive such an honor.
After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Barry went on to attend Johnson and Whales College in Rhode Island, where he received three degrees in Business.
Barry worked as an ambulatory driver at Dorothea Dix Mental Hospital in Cranston, RI and later transferred to the Ladd Center in Exeter, RI where he met his best friend, Debbie. They were united in matrimony on April 21, 1995 and moved to Florida from E. Greenwich, RI
Barry worked for Charlotte County's Sunshine Ride and worked for Grant Medical as a medical transport driver. He loved his church family and serving the Lord in AWANA.
He was survived by his wife Debbie; his son, Barry Nicholas; his siblings: Richard, David, Cathy Huling, John, Mike, Carol Strike, and Robert; and his two nephews, James and David Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Grace; and sister, Sandy Blair.
A memorial service will be held at 1PM on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Peace River Baptist Church, 478 Berry Street, Punta Gorda with Pastor Jim Stultz. http://www.peaceriverbaptistfl.org/

Barry :: I remember some of the good times at Nha Trang in the 5th CLSU. I remember the duce and a half when you flattened two of the tiers.. Sorry we never got together again after the war..
