For 16 years Mrs. Hanie was a resident of St. Petersburg, FL and attended Northside Baptist church. Prior to moving to St. Petersburg she was a resident of Springfield, MO where she attended High Street Baptist church. From 1978-1981 she was Mayor as well as City Council Alderman of Rogersville, MO, a member of the Springfield Transportation Commission, and committeewoman for the Missouri Democratic Convention. She was a military wife and followed her husband where he was stationed in Georgia, Arizona and North Carolina. Her youth was spent between Texas and Oklahoma while her adult life was based in North Carolina, Missouri and Florida.

Undoubtedly, most of Betty’s many friends and relatives will remember her as a devoted homemaker, hospitable hostess, wonderful cook and colorful storyteller, where she reveled in entertaining an audience. Her faith was an important part of her life and she never hesitated to give her amazing life testimony through which she endured and triumphed over many obstacles that would have caused many people to become discouraged and give up. But Betty had a determination that was buoyed by her deep and abiding faith.

A memorial service has been planned for 3:00 pm on Friday, March 25 at Bay Pines National Cemetery in the new Gazebo toward the back of the grounds. The address is: 10000 Bay Pines Boulevard in St. Petersburg, FL. The number to call for directions is: (727) 398-9426.
