For 16 years Mrs. Hanie was a resident of St. Petersburg, FL and attended Northside Baptist church. She was a military wife and followed her husband where he was stationed in Georgia, Arizona and North Carolina. Her youth was spent between Texas and Oklahoma while her adult life was based in North Carolina, Missouri and Florida.
Undoubtedly, most of Betty’s many friends and relatives will remember her as a devoted homemaker, hospitable hostess, wonderful cook and colorful storyteller, where she reveled in entertaining an audience. Her faith was an important part of her life and she never hesitated to give her amazing life testimony through which she endured and triumphed over many obstacles that would have caused many people to become discouraged and give up. But Betty had a determination that was buoyed by her deep and abiding faith.
A memorial service has been planned for 3:00 pm on Friday, March 25 at Bay Pines National Cemetery in the new Gazebo toward the back of the grounds. The address is: 10000 Bay Pines Boulevard in St. Petersburg, FL. The number to call for directions is: (727) 398-9426.

I hate that I cannot be there with the family I love you all and will miss grandma forever.
So sorry for your loss.
Our hearts and prayers go with the family.
I miss her and wish I could be with the family. As is evident from her obituary and more importantly from having known here all my life, she was truly a remarkable woman that lead a full and rich life and touched so many others. I love you Grandma.

Mom loved her 3 daughters and adored and delighted in her grandchildren. She was a woman of great industry and an excellent role model to daughters to make their own way professionally.
Her early background was so stressful that it is only her resolve that propelled her to be the person she became. She was known to be intelligent and gracious. One of my favorite memories was when my parents were studying to become realtors and they scooped up every book they could find on the subject and devoured them all, I was just a kid but I was so impressed that adults study too. Mom I still do every day, you were a good example.
Our condolences to your family. We did not know Betty, but Linda is a dear friend. We know how difficult this time can be and our thoughts are with you all.
What words could I possibly use to describe a life of a Mother, Wife and Woman who rose from the most grim life circumstances in her youth to overcome hardship and become an amazing contribution to her society? Mom was a wonderful homemaker and hostess, gifted saleswoman and dedicated to bettering her community. Her Faith was amazing and gives me comfort to know that she is now at a grand place of peace that she certainly deserved. I will miss her deeply, and will try to retain all that she taught me. Her bigger than life personality will certainly be missed by many people, not just family.
