Carolyn Hawthorne Barton, 86, of Dixfield and Florida, passed peacefully into the loving hands of her Lord from the Rumford Community Hospital on April 8, 2010.

She was born in West Peru on May 27,1923 the daughter of John Leighton Knight and Irene Burgess Knight .She graduated from Stephens High School and was employed in the payroll department at the Oxford Paper Co. for many years. In 1945, she married E.A.“Bud” Hawthorne of Dixfield and together they owned and operated the Hawthorne Funeral Home of Dixfield until his death in 1987 where Cal also owned her beauty salon for over 30 years.

In 1990, she married Theodore “Ted” Barton of Keene, NH. They wintered in Sarasota, Florida and summered at the family cottage on Worthley Pond until his death in 2006. Carolyn was a self-described “home-body” who enjoyed gardening and being with her family.

She leaves a daughter, with whom she resided for the past 18 months, Sandra Fuller and her husband Steve of Dixfield; a son, Allen Hawthorne and his wife Linda of Largo, Florida; five grandchildren; Aaron Keegan and his wife Lindsay, Cory Hawthorne and his wife Colleen, Sarah Keegan Whytock and her husband Chris, Isaac Keegan and his wife Michelle, and Shauna Hawthorne; six great grandchildren; Leighton and Ainsley Keegan, Delaney and Camryn Hawthorne, Madeline and Frankie Whytock; her half-brother, Stanley Knight; and three step-sons Dale, Alan, and David Barton. She was predeceased by a brother Randall Knight and a stepson Kenny Barton.
