Cecil D. Means, 71, of South Pasadena, Florida funeral service is 3:00 PM, Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, Florida 33744 with Pastor Gary Carter and the Pinellas County Military Honor Guard, to officiate.
Don was a hero to many for the way he lived life and the way he fought cancer. After being given 2-4 yeras to live, Don changed everything about his life, eating an all organic vegeterian diet and embracing alternative therapies. Don fought through 6 sessions of chemotherapy and gave us 8 great years with him after he was diagnosed. These fought for years gave his grandchildren an opportunity to know and to love him.
A native of Charleston, WV and a local resident since 1985, when he moved here fro St Louis, MO.; he was a retired business man and an US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War Era. He is survived by his wife, Pam of South Pasadena, FL; Children: Pamela Means and husband Mark of Seven Lakes, NC; Amy Singleton and husband David of Durham, NC; Don Means and wife Lynn of South Elgin, IL and Bill Summarell and wife Stephanie of West Palm Beach, FL.; 7 loved grandchildren; Brothers: Steve Carter and wife Josephine of St. Petersburg, FL; Pastor Gary Carter and wife Levenna of Lutz, FL; David Vaughan and wife Debbie of Oldsmar, FL.: Sisters: Janet Caudill of Inglewood, CA; Sharon Roman and husband Don of Sylvania, OH; Cheryl Edwards and husband John of Summerset, KY; Nancy Kolodziejski and husband Mark of Millbury, OH; Linda Yarick and husband Greg of Blissfield, MI; Virginia Green of Greentown, IN and Michelle Verdell of Swanton, OH.
Cecil Donald Means, 71, of South Pasadena, FL, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on November 23 at the Bay Pines VA Hospice.
Don lived all over the East coast until settling in Florida for the last 27 years. He served in the Army for 3 years as part of the Signal Corp, including a period in Korea and training for major operations at Eglin Air Force Base.
Don was blessed with a life full of family, love and laughter, always quick with a smile and never ending wit.
