Charles “Chuck” Henry Althoff, 65, of Clearwater, FL passed away on February 28, 2014 at Brookside Hospice House in Palm Harbor, FL.
Born in East Orange, NJ, he moved here from Delaware in 1989 where he was a video producer for DuPont. He owned “Woodchucks”, a custom woodworking business in Dunedin, FL. He was an Army veteran of Vietnam, serving with the 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Catholic and a member of the American Legion Marshall Labree Post, #304 , Dania, FL, the Tampa Bay Parrot Head Club, and a volunteer for the Save the Manatee Foundation.
Survivors include his two brothers, Jack and Steve; and three stepchildren, Ron Matthew, Holly.
A Graveside service will be at 12:30 PM on Thur., March 6th at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72 (Exit 205 off I-75), Sarasota, FL.

Chuck and I met through Parrot Heads over 18 years ago. Chuck was a good and helpful friend and a favorite fishing buddy. Rest in peace, my friend. My condolences to the family – you are in my prayers.

I was certainly saddened when I heard the news today. Chuck was a dear friend. He was one of the GREAT members of the Tampa Bay Partot Head Club. Best of all we had a lot of laughs and caught a LOT of fish together. He will be truly missed. I am a better person for knowing Chuck. Sail on my friend.

I met Chuck 17 yrs ago with the Tampa Bay Parrot Heads and am heart broken to hear of another one of our phlock moving on. He was good, good man. He was funny and kind and had the best smile! We will be missed friend.
I am happy to say I met Chuck after Harry and I started the TB Parrot Head Club. He and wife Marsha at the time, became wonderfully active members in the club and helped take it to being the largest club in the world. He hosted many a Board meeting and was Chairman of one of most successful Manatee Ball’s in terms of money raised. He is a loving spirit who I will look forward to meeting again on the other side. Enjoy your new found peace and comfort my friend.

I remember meeting Chuck when we were in the initial stages of forming the TBPH Club. He was a great worker for the club and a super person. May God bless your family, Chuck.
Chuck was a special person ! He grew up close to my home in Claymont Delaware and we had many mutual friends. I had not seen him in years and cherish the last time we were together.His Brother Steve was a car guy like myself and many of us back in the day, and will never forget how Chuck virtually demolished Steve’s mint condition yellow 57 chevy ragtop while Steve was in Vietnam.Chuck was such a talented , interesting guy and he will be missed by all of us. what is amazing is I was thinking about the Althoff’s today while doing a walk not far from where they went to high school. do not know why exactly because I have not seen either Chuck or Steve in many years. I got home, received a call that Chuck had passed weeks ago.Hard to believe. My heartfelt Sympathy to the Family and God Bless Chuck. Will never forget the rallying call ” Matinee at Althoff’s ” that signaled pool party in Green Acres cause the Parents were away !!!

I just now found out about Chuck. Amazing! He was a friend of my brother, and they are 4 years older than me, but I can still see him like it was yesterday and I thought he was so cool. Kinda like a Beach Boy. Sorry to hear about his passing. My best to his family!
It took me six and a half years to find out about Chucks passing. I met him after returning from Vietnam in 1970.We lived together in a couple different houses and were kind of lost soles (with others) for awhile. Charlie was the first to get his act together, go back to school and get his job at DuPont but I had spent a lot of time with Chuck and yes we fished up at my grandparents place in New Hampshire. Chuck got married and took on the responsibility of a couple of kids and our lives took different paths. I wish I had found out he was sick and had been able to talk to him but a lot of things happened including me moving away to New Hampshire to my family homestead and we didn’t stay in touch. But Charlie was important to me and I wanted to look him up. I wish Marsha and the kids well. I do miss him.
