Veterans Funeral Care Charles Walker Jr.

Charles Oliver Walker, Jr., MSG-US Army-Retired of Lutz, Florida and Fayetteville, North Carolina died in the James A. Haley VA Hospital, Tampa, Florida on August 19, 2012 from a service connected disability. MSG Walkers graveside funeral will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Veterans Cemetery Road, Canton, Georgia 30114 (Phone # 770-479-9300) with Reverend Larry Decard and the United States Army Honors Funeral Team to officiate. Please meet at the cemetery between 10:00 AM and service time.
 
A native of Columbus, Georgia and a retired US Army Ranger that served our nation for 21 years, MSG Walker graduated from Spencer High School in Columbus, Georgia and received a Bachelor Degree from Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He was of the Baptist faith. During the time he served tours of duty at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Augsburg, Germany; two tours of duty in Vietnam and Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he retired in 1981.  Charles was awarded the Solider's Medal; Purple Heart; Bronze Star Medal with V Device and two Oak Leaf Clusters; Meritorious Service Medal; Ranger Tab; Army Commendation Medal with the V Device and One Oak Leaf Cluster; Air Medal; Good Conduct Meal (7th Award); Drill Sergeant Identification Badge; Army Service Ribbon; National Defense Service Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Master Parachutist Badge; Meritorious Unit Commendation; NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3); Overseas Service Ribbon (1); Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and a Vietnam Civil Actions Citation.  Charles was a "Barrel Chested Freedom Fighter" and a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi.  He will be remembered by many as Coach Walker and for his devotion to Pop Warner sports and his love of fishing. 

He leaves a family to cherish his memories; his wife, Faustina Walker of Fayetteville, North Carolina; his son, Charles O. Walker III and his wife, Claudia of Greensboro, North Carolina; his three daughters; Gwendolyn C. Walker of Atlanta, Georgia; Jacqueline Walker of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Lisa Walker of Fayetteville, North Carolina and his four grandchildren: Charles O. Walker IV, Carmen Walker, Megan Chesley and Heather Chesley and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends and love ones.  Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clifford Walker.
