Daniel Joseph O’Shea
Danny was born in Northampton, Mass to Daniel Timothy O’Shea and Fern Nada O’Shea on July 10, 1946. Danny has two older sisters, Pat O’Shea Warren, and Diane O’Shea Rymer. Pat is married to James Warren and Diane is married to John Rymer. Pat and Jim’s children are Pamela Warren Whitaker and James Patrick Warren. Pam has two beautiful daughters’, Lucy age 8 and Mary age 5. Pamela is Danny’s Goddaughter. John and Diane have two sons John and Kirk Rymer.
Dad was a pilot in the Air Force and had the opportunity to move his family to Louisiana, Texas, Germany, Japan and Hawaii. Danny always said that he made friends easily because he was used to moving around. The truth is that everyone that met Danny O’Shea loved him. Danny had such a magnetism that drew everyone to him. Men and women alike loved Danny. Danny graduated from the University of Central Florida with a B.S. in Political Science. He also had a degree from FIT in Oceanography. Danny loved the water. He was a Master Diver and in fact taught diving at FIT Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL. Some of his happiest days were days in the water. He was such a natural. He enjoyed diving with his wife Marilyn in many wonderful locations including Hawaii, the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, and Costa Rica.
Danny met Marilyn Smelser in Martin, Tenn. At the University of Tennessee at Martin. They were married in Memphis, Tenn. On March 22, 1975. They have two beautiful daughters Shawn, 31 and Kelly O’Shea 27. Shawn is married to a wonderful man Richard Creed and they have two beautiful daughters Danny’s grandbabies Rachel, 4 and Taylor 22 months. Kelly’s wonderful boyfriend is James Edwards. Danny and Marilyn were married 33 years and theirs was a true love story. They were perfectly suited to each other. As best friends, partners, and soul mates, they shared a beautiful family and so many, many precious times and memories. Danny had such a unique personality and sense of humor. With his legendary story telling ability, Danny always kept everyone entertained. Danny started out his career in sales for Gillette. From there he was in the Oil and Gas field and moved his family to Houston, Texas where they lived for 9 years. He moved back to Florida and started a construction company. He did commercial construction for 10 years. Dan was a true entreprenuer and went on to start an online pharmaceutical company which was sold last year. Dan then invested in commercial real estate and investment property in Costa Rica. Dan had other loves besides his family. Danny loved golfing, his Corvette, scuba diving, fishing, cars, planes and traveling. Dan and Marilyn were fortunate enough to visit Ireland, England, Scotland, Germany, Japan, Costa Rica, Italy, Spain, Croatia, France, Mexico, the Bahamas and Canada. And, like all good Irishmen, he liked his nip. Dan loved his family passionately. He also loved his friends passionately. He loved living life to the fullest. He was always ready for the next party. Danny had a favorite Irish saying, “there is the right way, and there is the Irish way.” Danny was a true animal lover. Animals, children and particularly woman loved him. Danny O’Shea was a gentleman’s gentleman and a fine, kind, loving and generous man. Danny has so many people that loved him and will miss him so desperately. Everyone feels so very lucky to have had him in their lives. God Bless you all for being in Danny’s life.

He was a man that one could not help but admire, respect and love. I have a beautiful history with Danny and all of the O’Shea’s . I love Danny so much for his strength and love of family and friends his faith and his desire to live life to it’s fullest. Not only did he extend himself to me but he was “DAD” to my beautiful son “Lance Corporal Tyler Hyde USMC”. He was there for Tyler after he lost his dad and Danny left an open door to a very impressionable young boy who grew up to gain Danny’s unconditional love and respect. WE LOVE YOU DANNY! I was so devastated to hear the news of Danny’s passing from Tammy. I want to extend my deepest condolences to you all. The few times that I was with Danny at functions for the Chamber he was always a delight as he was such a smiling upbeat guy. I only just met Dan a few months ago but I liked him immediately and admired his sweet disposition, entertaining personality, and generousity to his friends. I heard of his many accomplishments through mutual friends and, of course, admired his ingenuity.

Saying that I’m sorry about your loss is such an understatement that I feel foolish saying it. I love each of you like you are my own family. Mr. O’Shea was no exception to this. I loved him whole heartedly and I know he loved me in return. He treated me like I was one of his own daughter’s-when Kelly got in trouble..so did I, if Kelly had to get up to eat the breakfast he cooked at 7 am on a Saturday..so did I. In high school he kept peanut butter stocked in the cabinet for me and let me tag along at almost every family function and vacation. He trusted me for years as not only his daughter’s best friend but as an employee. He was a man of great patience – dealing with 5 girls through a week vacation and never complaining once. I have many memories of Mr. O’Shea – him taking pictures as he drove us through the desert, him always welcoming me with a kiss and a hug hello, me begging him to let me drive the corvette, him teaching me how to solve Quiptoquips on the airplane…and so so many more. The O’Shea family will not be the same without him. My life has been changed because of his presence and it will certainly be affected by its absence. Marilyn, Kelly, and Shawn – you three hold very special places in my heart and if I could take this pain from you I would. You were the women in Dan’s life-he was so proud of you all and loved to show you off. He will always be with you – he has not left you to deal with this alone. He passed on to you the qualities that make you such strong women. Together you will find the sunshine again.

She said the first couple weeks of us hanging out, it consisted of 1000 words from you and 10 words from me, but lately I stepped up and got in 20 words in myself. You are my friend and father. I only wish that you and my father had more time to get to know each other. Something tells me that you two would like each other. I love you being my dive buddy and turning around and you are upside down crawling into a wreck we were told to specifically to stay out of. I love you staying up all night with me gambling then taking me shark diving with no sleep. I especially love our dive instructions to not touch the sharks, but looking over and you are trying to pull the sharks fins. I DID NOT love you being my dive buddy and disappearing when I didnâ??t happen to see the seahorse going the other way that you just HAD to follow. I love hanging out with you in your kingdom on the back porch of your house. You reigned there. I love our late night talks about me loving your daughter. We had all moved around, your family in Houston and mine in California for 20 years, I guess we were all busy with life. I love to tell stories as well and many times those stories have revolved around Danny and myself in our bachelor days, that is until he met a girl named Marilyn.

Like everyone else, I was shocked to learn about Dan. It was perhaps more than a week ago that I last saw him and gave him a hug. I can still see him and hear his voice clearly in my mind, as if this was simply a bad dream and I will see him again. I met Dan in a professional setting a few years ago, but as all who knew him would surmise, I developed a personal fondness of him. He was genuinely sincere, passionate about his family and friends, and was easy to talk to. I know it is difficult to understand why he left us as it surely wasn’t his time. I am very fortunate to have met him, Marilyn and his beautiful daughters. The memory of Dan O’Shea will live on in all of our hearts. God bless.

Anyone who knew Danny was Blessed! What a wondeful person. His charasmatic persona was contagious. His smile filled a room.
My first meeting was with my husband Bob, his golf professional. I heard for months about Danny and Marilyn and when I finally met, I knew what he was talking about. We shared a dinner and after a few hours of story telling and laughs, I felt like I knew Danny and Marilyn a lifetime. Easy going, fun loving and genuine.
I thought Danny had an uncanny resemblence to George W. Bush. Danny was not thrilled with my opinion but went along with it and did we laugh.
I am sure anyone who was fortunate to have known him would agree, the world is missing a Gem. His life continues in a wonderful place in Heaven, he is surely one of God’s Special Angels.

I am home sick with the flu this morning of Danny’s service. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I only met Danny a couple of times but it is easy to see the essential goodness and kindness of a man in whom those qualities were so apparent. I shared a meal in your home and felt the love and welcome that many must have felt over the years. Lively discussion,good food and the warmth of a home filled with love are my memories of that evening. The world is not as bright, warm, or interesting today for those who are left behind but I believe we will see him again when we make our exit from this world and his kind works and good deeds will live on in the hearts and minds of those lucky enough to have known him. How could we let just a few years slip by without seeing each other? Who could have known that a lifetime would pass in the blink of an eye? My heart aches for all of you and for this great loss.
It has been nearly twenty years since we all first met and I think we were all instantly and forever changed. We were family to each otherâ?¦closer than our own at times. We were always there for each other. We were inseparable then. I miss you and I love you and Danny so very much.
Danny was like a young version of my dear Irish Dadâ?¦the good looks, the wit, the charm and the enjoyment of â??adult beverages.â?? Danny could light up a room with his mere presence, just like my Dad.
And the laughterâ?¦how Iâ??ve missed it! God, how Danny could make us laugh! I know that it has felt as if we might never laugh again. Over the past week, though, we have talked and reminisced. When we think back, those memories of Danny and our escapades have sparked the laughter despite our tears.
What a great tribute this guestbook is to Danny. He touched so many lives and, by doing so, lifted us all up. May God bless him and hold him safely until we meet again.

There are so many great memories and moments we have had, but there is one thing about you that stands out to me the most – your genuine welcoming of ANYONE into your home. I can’t ever remember a time I was visiting you and your family that we didn’t sit on the back porch with a drink or a fewin hand. I think we have talked about every subject possible, politics, cars corvettes, business, family, life in general. I certainly don’t want you looking down on my in disappointment, so I promise not to ruin any more Crown Royal by putting sprite or ginger ale in it!
I feel lucky to have had the chance to get to know you over the past 8 12 years. Kelly and I will be lifelong friends no doubt, and I promise to look out for her and keep her in line and Jimmy too, just as you would.
Rest peacefully, and know that your memory will forever carry on. You are one special guy that can’t be replaced, but can always be remembered.

YOU had me from hello. 34 years ago I fell in love in with the most handsome, dynamic, sophisticated, hilarious and fun person I had ever met. I was 20, you were 27. It was love at first sight. After we married 33 years ago, I discovered the most beautiful man on the inside and out I believe God ever created. As my husband, you became my lover, my buddy, my best friend, my soul mate, my fixer, my consoler, my everything; father of our beautiful daughters Shawn and Kelly, grandfather of our beautiful grandchildren Rachel and Taylor. And, as hard as it was for you to give your daughterâ??s hearts away to Richard and Jimmy, you did so lovingly and in turn finally got some men in the house that you so loved and cherished an in turn so loved you and frankly I know you were grateful for the boys to take your adult girls safekeeping Your daughters loved you from the moment they were born unconditionally when they locked eyes on your beautiful greenblues. So did Rachel and Taylor. Rachel sends up a special angel for you she bought for Poppi and Taylor told me to tell you, she loved your kisses and especially your eyes. Thank you for being the best father and grandfather a man can be. I donâ??t know how you knew how to do everything so well, but, you did. God was having a really good day when he created you. The genes that Fern and Dan Oâ??Shea passed on to you and your sisterâ??s Pat and Diane were some of the best gifts I will ever have. Your entire family embraced me into the most beautiful family I have ever known. And, again, I will be eternally grateful. The pain of the loss I suffer is directly linked to the degree of love I have and always have had for you. Itâ??s immeasurable and will never go away. But, mostly I want you to know and everyone to know how grateful I am for the 34 years I had on earth with you, the infinite love, laughter and pure joy we shared – ALL Godâ??s blessings he gave us. You made me laugh every day honey, thank you! Save a place for me baby in heaven and I hope that star I named for you wasnâ??t too hard to findâ?¦. Because, we know that is YOUR special place where you rest and look down, you are watching and beaming at all of us. All of you whom have shared that you wrote a precious memorial and you do not see it and or, told us….please type it again. Myself included….presently brain impaired..had to do mine twice…when you finish typing…scroll down, preview, and click sign guestbook, So many have told us they signed it, but can’t see it. Remember, just finish it so that we can see it. I have tried to tell several people how much it means to all of Danny’s family….believe me, your words will comfort us and stay with us forever. Danny, on the other hand is up there, seriously, laughing,because we have not figured it out, and he has but mostly, loving it too! God Bless YOU ALL! This has been a difficult thing for me to do â?? I have sat at the keyboard many times and not even begun to know what or how to say it. As I have read what those close to you and our family have written I have been deeply touched and to some degree healed a little bit to know the love and admiration people had for you. I know that you live on and that this certainly was not the end for a great man but just a new beginning in a better life for him. Know that in this life you certainly created beauty and that beauty is reflected in Shawn, Kelly, Rachel and Taylor. As I sit back and watch I see so much of you in them and it lets me know you are still here with me and I can still reach out and touch you through them especially Shawn and Taylor, man do those two have a lot of Danny in them â?? wish me luck. Thank you for trusting me with the most wonderful gift in the world, your first daughter who you have raised to be the sweetest, giving and comforting mother to my children, how you must smile from above with such pride for the woman she has become.
I have so many wonderful memories with you but the ones that will stick with me the most are the ones we spent on the water. Our shared love for the salt life will be something I will treasure forever â?? there will always be a cold Budweiser on my boat for you as there was the very first time I meet you. I will never forget the night I had with Shawn, mom and you in San Diego â?? how we laughed! I will especially never forget the look and hug you gave me when I married Shawn as to say â??Son she is yours, I love you and take care of her for me.â??
I love you Dad even when you look like Spegel after a night of good times at Melissaâ??s wedding â?? had to be there. I promise to never ler Rachel and Taylor forget you and how much they meant to you. We will continue to keep your love and spirit alive in our home and will continue to look to the heavens and let Poppy know that we love him and are thinking of him until we come together again.

I loved Danny. He was such a super-silly, spunky life-force that I still cannot get my mind around the fact that he’s gone. He was the instigator of many adventures and was certainly NEVER boring. I loved his sense of humor and most of all, the humorous stories shared with me about him, i.e., business trip Town Car sleep-drooling episode and pressed duck, to mention two. The O’Sheas, in general, are the most loving, colorful and amusing family I know and Danny was the ring leader. He will be dearly missed by all, but will live forever in our memories. I just wish I could speed up time to make the hurt lessen. But since I can’t, just know you have many, many friends who love you all and loved Danny. Love, Mary
Marilyn, We were so very shocked and sadened to hear of Danny’s passing. He was a lovely, generous person, who, from our first meeting became a dear and well loved friend to the both of us. He welcomed us into his home and family, and was always willing to give of himself. Although we are across the other side of the Atlantic we will miss him dearly, which proves that the miles cannot dampen the high regard that we both held for Danny.

Marilyn, did Danny live in Delaware at one time and his father was stationed at Dover AFB?
My husband and I knew Danny when his family was at Dover AFB iDelaware. He dated my sister Terry who also passed in 2008. He was a great friend to us. May he rest well🙏
