David A. “Captain Bosco” Langstaff, 58, of St Petersburg, FL died at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center, Bay Pines, FL. on June 27, 2010 from natural causes. His services with full military honors is 10:45 AM, Friday Morning, July 2, 2010 at Bay Pines VA National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines Florida 337444 with Captain (Chaplin) Bud Burkett and the VFW Post 9272 Honor Guard, to officiate.
“Captain Bosco” was a native of New York City, NY and a local resident since 1990, when he moved here from New York City, NY. He was an accomplished trombone player and “Captain Bosco” was a member of Wayne Cochran and The CC Riders Band. “Captain Bosco” was of the Catholic faith and served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War Era aboard the USS Kansas City (AOR-3). David loved to be a pirate and being dressed in his pirates costume and is known by everyone as “Captain Bosco”.
Preceded in death by his mother, Lois Langstaff, “Captain Bosco” is survived by his loving family: his wife, Carol Langstaff of St. Petersburg, FL; two sons: Gregory Langstaff of Groton, CT and Derek Langstaff of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; a daughter, Kimberley Langstaff of Northern New Jersey; his father, Allan Langstaff of ST Petersburg, FL and his brother, Eric Langstaff and his wife, Darcy of New Orleans, LA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society or the Bay Pines VA Hospice Unit in the memory of David A. "Captain Bosco" Langstaff.

I got to know Dave while he was at WorkNet and loved his humor. It was so up my alley. I also saw he had such a caring heart and was not one to have to have bells and whistles to alert people to what nice things he did for people. He didn’t do it for others to see but only because he cared so much about people. We missed him so much when he left WorkNet and now the world is not as wonderful without his presence. Those of us that had the pleasure of crossing Dave’s path are better in life for it. My prayers and thoughts are with Dave’s family.
It saddens me to hear of the passing of a great friend, co-worker and fellow veteran. I knew Dave when I was in the staffing business and our friendship followed through my time at the Urban League and now at Bright House Networks. He will be sorely missed.

To Dave’s family I offer my deepest condolences. I worked with Dave for over a year at Worknet Pinellas and we shared a kinship with our certain brand of humor. Sometimes when nothing else was working for us our sarcastic take on life always filled in the empty spaces for a good, long laugh. I appreciated his unique personality and talents and his straightforward nature and he will be sorely missed. The neighborhood will not be the same. When the Buc were playing you always heard David! He had the best sense of humor, very quick witted. I am sorry for Al and the rest of David’s family. And he new bride, Carol. RIP David….You passed as you lived with a sense of humor.

Dave and I met and re-met a few times. We were kids in Levittown, LI, NY in the ’60s and had common friends in the Lutz family. In 1978, we briefly reacquainted when Wayne Cochran & the CC Riders performed in Louisville, KY. But I got to know him best when we ran into each other in St. Petersburg, where I’ve worked in music for many moons. Dave was a regular at many of the gigs I played at the world famous Biff Burger, and I always looked forward to goofing off and “talking music” with him on those occasions. He frequently gifted me with listening material, and we became steadfast friends over the last few years. He will be definitely be missed, but his friendship and inspiration will live on in memory for me.
I just now received the bad news from a mutual friend in Texas. I grew up a few doors away from David & Eric in the neighborjood called Rollingwood. David’s personal legacy to me was a love of music, in particular – jazz. It was he who introduced me to talent like Kai Winding way vack in the 60’s. Davis was a dear pal of mine – I traced him to Florida a few years back, and we shared a reminiscent chat for 30 minutes. My deepest condolences to all who knew and loved this extraordinary and remarkable man.

Dear Al, Carol and family,
I am so saddened at this turn of events for all of you. Carol, we never had the change to meet, but he told me about being engaged and soon married the last time we spoke. In all the messages I’ve read, it sounds like he touched so many people with his humorous outlook on life. I will never forget my trip to St. Pete. Dave actually taught me how to fish! It was only bait fish, but whose counting? Dave and I shared many things, especially our love of music and the great things our parents did by living near “NYC.” We were both in All-Eastern together in Washington, D.C. What a thrill and God gave him a special talent and he never once doubted where it actually came from! Al, I’ll be checking on you from time to time. This has to be extraordinarily rough. We from Walt Whitman adored him. Like one of our previous writers says, he is in Heaven now with Ray Wilson. I am privileged to have known Dave and stayed friends these past four decades. Always loving and caring; good night dear one. We all loved you!
