Veterans Funeral Care Dorothy Salhany

 

Dorothy L. Salhany, 88, of Largo, FL, funeral services are 9:15 AM, Friday, March 27, 2009 at Bay Pines VA National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, FL with Pastor Howard, to officiate. Dorothy passed away peacefully at her home with her son, nephew and friends at her side on March 19, 2009. She is survived by her son, Charles; special friends, Sally Keller and Mike Morgan; her pug, Simon, nephews Colin and Gary Salhany and other relatives and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
 She and her family moved here in the mid 1980’s from Akron, Ohio. During World War II, she was a “Rosey the Riveter” at Goodyear Aircraft in Akron, OH and helped assemble the first Corsair fighter airplane. She also riveted the first tail section on the “P-38 Lighting”. She met her beloved husband, Charles when he was on leave from the US Navy thru his sister, who worked with her on Corsairs. When she and Charles were married in 1945, they lived on a US Naval Base in the Miami, FL area until his discharge from the US Navy. After moving back to Akron, OH she worked for several years as an office manager in a physician’s office. She was a hospital volunteer for many years in Akron, OH and at the Suncoast Hospital, here. She was also active in the Democratic Party in Akron, OH.   
Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, and a good friend too many. She had a warm and vivacious personality and a wonderful sense of humor. She also was a very talented cook, seamstress, and decorator.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Charles and her parents, Euclid and Rose Bishop and many friends and relatives.
A special thanks to Hospice and especially a nurse, Cleve Mills, whose care and kindness near the end was exceptional. Also a special thanks to doctors, nurses and their staffs for many years of good care and friendship. The family request, that in lieu of flowers, to please make donations to St. Jude Hospital in the memory of Dorothy L. Salhany.
