Earl J. Remal, 84, of Clearwater, FL, passed away Fri., April 18, 2008 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System.
Born in Fitchburg, MA, son of the late Axel and Hilda Suomala Remal, he attended Fitchburg High School when he enlisted into the US Army. He served with the famous Merrill’s Marauders in Burma, India as a radio operator which received a Distinguished Unit Citation award during WWII. He returned and graduated from his high school. He married Louise E. Rawson in the Christ Episcopal Church of Fitchburg and lived in Waltham until 1977 when he moved to Milan, Italy for two years. He retired as a field engineer from Raytheon after 36 years in 1989. He was a mason with the Waltham Triad Lodge AF&AM. He was a ham radio operator and he enjoyed working on computers.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Axel and sisters, Doris Bowers and Phyllis Colello. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Louise; two daughters, Karen Bailey of Hanover, MA and Marlene Remal of Dracut, MA; two brothers, Alfred of Sarasota, FL and Robert of Fitchburg; four grandchildren, Karl and Peter Bailey and Heather and Kristen Chalmers; and a great granddaughter, Alexia Lindsay.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local American Cancer Society.
