Veterans Funeral Care Earnest Mapes

Earnest "Lee" Mapes of Lubbock left his temprorary earthly home and went to start the next chapter in his life with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 3, 2013.

Visitation will be 10 am-12 pm on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Griffin Mortuary,1715 E. Broadway, Lubbock, 79403. Graveside services with Military Honors by the Marine Corps will be presented at 1:00 pm at Resthaven Memorial Park, 5740 W. 19th Street, Lubbock. Pastor Russell Kuhns of Martin Springs Baptist Church will officiate.

He was born to Jack and Rubye Mapes in Anton,Tx December 18,1943. He moved to Lorenzo and that is where he graduated Lorenzo High where he played football, ran track and loved to rodeo. After graduating he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam where he was a Sergeant in the 1st Bridge, 7th Engineers division.

Lee was active in the VFW, Elks Lodge, and the Kooties. He enjoyed going "Junkin" and would horse trade with anyone that had something to trade. He loved kids and the elderly.

He married his Soul mate September 15,1978, Ms Mona Averett and spent the remainder of his years adoring his Bride. Mr. Mapes was a welder by trade which he enjoyed so it was more of a hobby than a career.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jackie Gerald; and sister, Jane.  Survivors include his wife Mona; daughter, Kelli Mapes Krieg and husband, Gary; son, John Holocker and wife Deana; two grandsons, Lukas Wyatt and Lance Weston; brother, Travis "Beau" Mapes and wife, Marcie; brother in law, Ervin Averett and wife Lisa; sister in law, Kathy Adam and wife, Ron; and numerous neices, nephews and friends that he loved so much. 

Special "Thank You" to all that helped him through the battle of Alzhemers: Courtney, Thiry, Eloise, Eric and Olivia.

Pall Bearers will be Gary Krieg, Eric Darwin, Ron Adam and Clay Adam.  Honorary Pall Bearers are his brother Marines from the 1st Bridge, 7th Engineers division: Cliff Echols, Paul Cooper, Domingo Cornelio, Lowell Heiderscheidt, Jimmy Jackson, John Kurtz, Don Nettles, Jim Packenham, Tom Perius, Don Primrose and George Westbay.
