Edgar H. Cyr, 79, of Largo, Florida, died Sunday, Oct 15, 2006 at Bay Pines VA Medical Center in St. Petersburg, FL. Born in Van Buren, Maine; he came to the Tampa Bay area in 1985 from South Portland, Maine. He owned a barbershop in Biddeford, Maine, was a Welder at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and retired from General Electric as an equipment operator. He was a disabled veteran, serving his country in the Navy during WWII, earning an Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with a battle star, Philippine Liberation Medal, with a battle star, a European Theatre Medal and a WWII Victory Medal. He served on the USS Chaffee, a Destroyer Escort, which was torpedoed in the Pacific. He served in the Pacific Theatre. He re-enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. He is a life Member of DAV Chapter #9. He attended Immanuel Chapel in Largo, FL. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Cordeau Cyr, Largo, a son, Fernand Cyr, Portland, ME, 3 daughters, June Dunlap, Largo, Charlene Cyr, Clearwater, Kim Baker, St. Petersburg, a brother, Gerald Cyr, Scarborough, ME, 3 sisters, Bernice Goldrup & Jeanette Verrier, both of Waterville, ME, Kathleen Garon, Keene, N.H. 11grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren.
