Edward Patrick Slattery, 91, S/Sgt-US Army Air Corps-World War II Veteran, died at his residence in Pinellas Park, FL on July 12, 2010 from natural causes. His services are 9:15 am, Friday, July 23, 2010 at Bay Pines VA National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, FL 33744 with the Korean War Veterans Honor Guard, to officiate.
A native of New York City, NY and a local resident since 1952, when he moved here from Middlevillage, NY; he was a retired engineer for General Telephone; a Catholic and a US Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the 8th Air Force Association; a “Pearl Harbor Survivor” and a member of the American Legion and the VFW. During the World War, he was a top turret gunner on the B-17 “Flying Fortress” and served in Central Europe, Ardennes, Rhineland, France, Normandy and Honolulu. He was awarded an American Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and an EAME Ribbon.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Theresa Slattery of Pinellas Park, FL; a son John Shinall and his wife, Grace of Largo, FL; two daughters: Elaine Ellingsworth and her husband, Charles of Webster, FL and Kelly Williams and her husband, Pete of ST Petersburg, FL; a brother, James Slattery and his wife, Lee of Boca Raton, FL; a sister, Joan Lawless of Tuckahoe, NY; six grandchildren: Steven Ellingsworth, Tiffany Williams, Pamela Ellingsworth, Katie Williams, Patricia Ellingsworth and Payton Shinall; one great grandchild, Shawnna Goslin; and many loving nieces and nephews.
