Edward T. Claverie, 82, of Tampa, FL funeral service is 1:30 PM, Friday, July 1, 2011 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513 with the Marion County Military Honor Guard and Captain Art Nave, to officiate. The family will receive friends at the Sumterville 1st Assembly of God Church, 2087 East County Road 470 East, (Exit # 321 of Interstate 75 North), Sumterville, Florida 33585 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
A lifelong Tampa, Florida native, Edward was born on November 24, 1928 and passed away on June 23, 2011 at the Baldomero Lopez VA State Nursing Home, Land of Lakes, Florida. After being discharged from the US Army, he served as a police officer for 12 years for the City of Tampa and helped establish the FOP. Edward then worked for and retired from Continental Can Company as a mechanic and served our nation during the Korean War Era in the US Army and obtained the rank of Corporal. During his military service, he was awarded the Japan Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal and four (4) Bronze Service Stars.
Preceded in death by his wife, Kinu who is already buried at Florida National Cemetery; Edward is survived by his loving family: nephews, Tommy Cock of Spring Hill, Florida and Tom Cock III of Tampa, Florida; his nieces, Deborah Cock of Tampa, FL.; Rene Alsup of McGregor, Texas; Rise Wright of Tucson, Arizona; Judy C. Kucko of Atlanta, Georgia and Sonja Culbreath of Dade City, Florida .

Edward and I worked together at Continental Can for many years.
Ed’s passing is again a reminder that life is short and we need to spend more time talking to the ones we really care about. Ed was a good man and friend.
Uncle Edward truly loved people and was a devoted husband for 54 years. He also watched every Rays baseball game. He was fortunate enough to have his nephew, Dean, take him to a Rays game and then again to a Yankee’s spring training game during his final months. Anyone who knew him well, knew how much also enjoyed talking! He will be missed by many.
Ed and I worked together in Fl, GA, and TX. He was a good fried and buddy. Although I lost track of him in later years I’ll never forget the good times we had. Rest well my friend.
I will miss Uncle Monk so much. We talked frequently by phone (I’m in China), and I always had a happy feeling when I hung up. He was a kind man who loved his family. We loved him too.
Memories are all we have left of those who pass on. I know that for those who were lucky enough to know him, those memories are fond ones.
May God give peace to the family of Edward Claverie and fill their hearts with many happy memories.
I very sad to hear about his passing, I have been sick and did not get message. I was in hospital and my phone was turned off. I just heard message from Debra today. I wish I was there today but very upset I can not come.i’m missing him so much.
Edward was truly a class act! I surely enjoyed discussing contemporary Tampa Bay history with Edward, and rooting together for our beloved Tampa Bay Rays and Tampa Bay Bucs! Edward’s wit, and unique perspective on life will be sorely missed. Although I extend my heartfelt sorrow with all of the family, I share with you in the celebration of Edward’s life.
