Lt. Col. Elmer W. Potter, US Army,Retired- A World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Veteran, funeral service is Friday- 1:00 PM, August 12, 2011 at the “Old Post Chapel” Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. After the Old Post Chapel service, the funeral procession will then march behind the horse drawn caisson to the graveside where full military honors will be accorded by the US Army Military Funeral Detail.
Born September 20, 1921 in Okmulgee, OK, Lt. Col. Potter died on March 6, 2011 at the Town and Country Hospital, Tampa, FL from natural causes. Lt. Col Potter served as a Armored Recon Unit Commander and was awarded a World War II Victory Medal; Europe-African-Middle East Campaign Medal; American Campaign Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Army Occupation Medal (Japan and Germany); Army Commendation Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and attended and graduated from Basic Cavalry Course; Cavalry Officer Communication Course; Armor Officer School; Special Weapons School; Advanced Armor Course; USA Command and General Staff Officer College and USA Command and General Staff College for Nuclear Weapons.
Lt. Col. Potter is survived by his loving family, his daughters; Leslie Hall and her husband, Donald of Saint Mary, Georgia and Jeri Sharrett and her husband, Stephen of Williamsburg, Virginia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
