Ernest James Roland, 79, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2012, at Baldomero Lopez Veterans Home in Land O Lakes, FL.
He was born in Empire, GA. where his family farmed. His family later moved to Macon, GA where he married his former wife of 29 years, Shelby Murkerson Roland. Ernest then moved his family to Tampa, FL in 1965, where he remained until his passing. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with his family. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by father, John "JD" Dewey; mother, Leccie Mae; brothers, Dewey "DW" Wilburn, Danny, and Blanton; sisters, Ginny and Melba. Survivors include Shelby Roland; son, James Randal (Christina) Roland; two daughters, Elaine Shelby (Aldon Jr.) Sanchez, Cynthia Ann (Jack) Ward; a brother, Tommy; two sisters, Shirley Wagner and Sandra Roland; six grandchildren, Shannon, Natasha, Stephanie, Justin, Aldon III, Nathaniel; and great grandchildren, Ricky, Kayla, Daniel, Mathew, Brooke, Jeromy Jr., Nicholas, Shane, Hayley, Jacob, Chloe, Aldon IV, Kyle, Myia; and many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be presented by the Marion County Memorial Honor Guard at 12:30 PM on Friday, September 28, 2012, at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL (Exit 309 off I-75).
