“Fireman John” Charles Thomas, 61, of Madeira Beach, FL, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System.
John moved to St. Petersburg from his native Muskegon, MI in 1973. He served his country in the US Army as a Corpsman, in the National Guard, and was called to active duty in 2001. He was awarded the rank of Sergeant First Class in 1993. He was a fireman with the Lealman Stations 18 and 19 in Kenneth City. John loved his country, friends, and life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Thomas and LaVern Vitange and two brothers, Duane and Daniel Thomas. Survivors include two brothers, James and Robert; and sister, Sandra (William) Crews.
A Memorial Service with Honors will be presented at 11 AM on Thurs., Sept. 19th at VFW Holiday Isles Post #4256, 12901 Gulf Boulevard, Madeira Beach 33708.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Bay Pines Fisher House, PO Box 5005, MC FH00, Bay Pines, FL 33744 (make check payable to Bay Pines VAHCS and write Fisher House GPF 1093 in the memo) .
