Mr. Floyd M. "Junior" Schlauch, 85, of Winter Haven, Florida, died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Brandywyne Health Care.
Floyd was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served as an Aerial Photographer and Tail Gunner. He was shot down over the oil fields of Ploesti, Romania and became a Prisoner of War. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with Six Bronze Stars. He reenlisted in the National Guard and was called to duty as a 2nd Lieutenant by the Army during the Korean War where he earned the Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal with three Battle Stars.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Ann Schlauch; three children: Ron Schlauch, of Winter Haven, Susan Howerton, and husband, Doyle, of Thermopolis, WY, and Becky LaQuay and husband, Chris, of Charlotte Hall, MD; his six grandchildren: Jennifer Smalt and husband, Gary, Brian Schlauch, Lisa Bowman and husband, Greg, Catherine Howerton, Robert LaQuay, Jr., and wife, Tawny, and Joseph LaQuay and wife, Melissa; and three great-grandchildren: Emily Smalt, Amelia LaQuay, and Layla LaQuay; his sister, Betty Cain: a brother, Robert Schlauch and wife, Patty; and sister-in-law, Mabel Schlauch, and a host of relatives and friends.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be presented at 2PM on Monday, March 1, 2010 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513. Those who wish may make a memorial contribution in Mr. Schlauch’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
