Francis “Frank” Leo Hennessy
September 10, 1929 – August 10, 2010
Frank was born on September 10, 1929, to Francis Leo and Margaret (Countey) Hennessy in Paterson, NJ. He departed this life on August 10, 2010, after a brief illness.
Frank spent most of his childhood years with two sisters, Maureen and Jean in Paterson, NJ. He graduated from Seaton Hall University upon his completion of military service. He was member of the Seaton Hall “Pirates” basketball team.
Frank joined the U.S. Army in 1951. There he was stationed with the heavy Mortar Company, 21st Infantry Regiment. Frank was one of a select few soldiers who guarded the Treaty of Panmunjeom the night before it was signed. His heroics earned him the Korean Service Medal w/ two Bronze Stars, the United Nations and National Defense Service Medals, and the Japan Occupation Medal. He was a Korean War veteran.
Frank moved to Sarasota with his wife, MaryAnn in 1958. Where he and MaryAnn raised four children and began the Hennessy family tennis dynasty. He also taught English at the Out Of Door School and Saint Martha’s Parochial School.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, Mary Ann; his sister Maureen ( Hennessy) Paye, four children, Frank Hennessy, Kathy (Hennessy) Johnson, Patrick Hennessy, Colleen (Hennessy) Martin, grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Justin Hennessy, Kelly (Martin) Legge, Aimee Johnson, and Sam Martin. And a host of life long friends.
Services will be 1:00 pm Friday at Florida National Cemetery 6502 SW 102nd Avenue
Bushnell, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be sent in Frank’s name to Operation Patriot, Baldomera Veteran’s Nursing Home 6919 Parkway Blvd., Land O Lakes, FL 34639
