Homer, G. Russell “Russ”, 78, of Clearwater, FL died August 1, 2010 at home under the care of Suncoast Hospice.
Russ moved here in 1954 from his native Lakewood, NY after serving 4 years in the US Navy during the Korean War. He attended the University of Florida and worked on the Centaur Space Program for Honeywell until his retirement in 1989. He attended First Lutheran Church of Clearwater. He served as Past Commander of American Legion Turner Brandon Post #7 and Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #2159, Largo.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Eleanor J. “Julie”; daughter, Russann Cram of St. Petersburg, FL; 2 stepchildren, Holly Vogt and Dale Engerer, both of Largo, FL; brother, Robert of Brooksville, FL; a sister, Dicksie Carpenter of Jamestown, NY; and 5 grandchildren.
A Graveside service with military honors will be at 10AM on Friday, August 6 at Bay Pines National Cemetery. An Elks memorial service will follow at 11:30AM at the Elks Lodge, 810 16th Avenue SE, Largo.
Contributions may be made to the First Lutheran Church School or the Salvation Army.
My Uncle Russell’s great sense of humor and infectious smile will be missed by all that knew him.
