Iacono, George D., 94, of St. Petersburg, passed away on September 30, 2011 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System.
He moved here from his native Malden, MA in 1982 where he retired as a Tile Setter with the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union #3. Locally he worked for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team during spring training and Tropicana Field as an usher during the Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball games. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and fought in five battles including the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the VFW Post #4364 in St. Petersburg and the Elks Lodge in Malden. He enjoyed dancing and was awarded several trophies.
He was the youngest and last of 11 siblings. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Keith Moscone. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Alice; two daughters, Louise A. Iacono of Manchester, NH and Virginia L. (George) McGarr of Pembroke, NH; 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Graveside Services with military honors will be presented by Seminole VFW Post #9272 at 12:45 PM on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to hospice at Bay Pines VA Health Care System, (727) 398-6661.

My deepest sympathy to the Iacono family. I had the pleasure of meeting George and Alice and spending an Easter Sunday with them 5 years ago. He was gracious and a man who enjoyed life and family.

Gramp, you will forever be loved and thought of with a smile. They say “love grows by giving” this could not be more true of how You touched our hearts with the love you gave. Your sunny happy disposition throughout your life is just one example of the many gifts you gave to your family and to the people around you. I was and am truly Blessed to have had such a wonderful,loving man & grandfather in my life and in the lives of my children and grandchildren. We send our heartfelt sympathy to all the Iacono family. We remember George and Alice fondly from when we had them visit us in Merrimack, NH some years back. We enjoyed hearing stories from George about his life. What an engaging man! We looked at him with much admiration and always will. May he rest now and be at peace. Blessings to the family.
My uncle, my friend. I so admired Uncle Georgie and his outlook on life. He was always ready to smile anf laugh. He and my mother Julia had many good times together, they were the youngest in the large family of eleven.
His marriage to Aunt Alice gave me hope for the future. They loved each other very much. My life is richer having him as my “Uncle Georgie”.
R.I.P. great gramp- although i didn’t see you much as i got older, i remember when i was little you would always bring me kenny and kyle little gifts from when you worked for the tampa bay team, and always knew how to put a smile on everyones faces. From what i know, and hear you were a great man, and will always be in everyones hearts, continuing to make everyone smile. Watch over my gram for me, because she was your little girl, and will miss you everyday. You are greatly loved and will be greatly missed <3
