Veterans Funeral Care George Iacono

Iacono, George D., 94, of St. Petersburg, passed away on September 30, 2011 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System.

He moved here from his native Malden, MA in 1982 where he retired as a Tile Setter with the Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union #3. Locally he worked for the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team during spring training and Tropicana Field as an usher during the Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball games. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and fought in five battles including the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the VFW Post #4364 in St. Petersburg and the Elks Lodge in Malden. He enjoyed dancing and was awarded several trophies.

He was the youngest and last of 11 siblings. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Keith Moscone. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Alice; two daughters, Louise A. Iacono of Manchester, NH and Virginia L. (George) McGarr of Pembroke, NH; 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Graveside Services with military honors will be presented by Seminole VFW Post #9272 at 12:45 PM on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Bay Pines National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to hospice at Bay Pines VA Health Care System, (727) 398-6661.
