George "Jorge" Levine, age 64, passed away suddenly but peacefully on April 5th while on a cruise in the Caribbean.
Born August 11, 1943 in the Bronx, NY, George was the youngest of 4 children born to the late Murray and Jean Levine. In high school he played baseball and was active in school politics. George served as a corpsman in the US Army from 1962-1963. After living in NY for several years, he moved his young family to Jacksonville, FL in 1972. They moved to Gainesville in 1975 and soon after George became owner/operator of Guarantee Carpet Cleaning. His enormous success in the carpet cleaning business was due to his immense love for and natural ability to connect with people. George’s many passions included reading good books poolside and/or the beach, engaging everyone around him in conversation, attending UF sporting events, as well as a dedicated sports fan of the Yankees and Red Sox, going to the movies, and local theatre. Most recently he was a volunteer at the Gainesville VA Hospital. George’s generous spirit, good humor and willingness to help others will be missed by all. George’s personality was such that once you met him, you didn’t forget him.
He leaves to mourn his passing, three sisters: Barbara Markowitz, NJ, Lois Myerson and Fran Goldin, NY; his daughter Darlene S. Visscher and son-in-law Jonathan Visscher, Gainesville, FL; son Lt. Col. David S. Levine and wife Emily, two granddaughters, Carson and Beatrice Levine of Heidelberg, Germany; and former wife Aleida Levine, Micanopy, FL.
A private service will be held for immediate family. Family will be honored to receive friends for visitation at Unity of Gainesville Church, 8801 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL from 3:00 – 5:00pm.
The family requests contributions may be made to VetSpace, Inc., PO Box 452, Gainesville, FL 32602. www.vetspace.org

Our heartfelt sympathy to all the family. After moving away from Gainesville, when we saw George in town he never forgot us,and was always glad to see us. We will miss seeing him.
Jorge,
I’ve known you all my life. You were more than a brother-in-law to me. I will miss the love and support you’ve shown me through the years.
Thank you for being in my life.
You made me laugh so much with your “locura”.
You can now visit Mommy, Daddy and Richie and Velma. They are waiting for you.
You have said you final “ya” now you can rest in peace.
Love,
Norma.
George was like a brother to me. During a critical time in my life he advised me to join the military which started me on my carreer and personal path that I continue today. I will always be grateful for that.
Dear John and Darlene,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of grieving. We were very fortunate and it was our pleasure to have met your father. I can instantly tell he was a good, kind hearted and jovial man that loved his daughter. And even though your father has passed on to a better life, I know without a shadow of a doubt that he will always and forever remain in your heart. And as I remember you two together, I instantly saw the love and strong bond between father and daughter. You’re very blessed to have a wonderful father. May God continue to bless and watch over you and John. Please extend our deepest sympathy to your mother as well. And if there is anything we can do please let us know. And of course if you need to talk, We are only a phone call away. Love Always Mark, Carol and Family
I didn’t really know him, but he is my family. I know you’re missed, George. Take care…
Condolences to the family. I enjoyed George as he was always ready with a smile and a joke to share. I can still see his smile and remember him fondly. Thank you George!
Dear George,
I was very sad to hear that you passed away. May you rest in peace.
Hope it´s peacefull and warm where ever you are. I remember you really didn´t make it in the cold north off Sweden. After walking at night in the woods in minus 30 celcius, we couldn´t understánd what you were saying, will always remember that. We miss you.
