George Russell

George Russell

Veterans Funeral Care George Russell

George R Russell of Clearwater, FL took his last earthly breath in his home surrounded by his family Wednesday, Jan 23 2008.

Because he went much faster than it was assumed he would, he did not follow the proto typical stages, but then again, George always wanted to do things his way. Once he had made peace with God and understood that his family knew how much he loved them and that everything was okay, he decided to let go. George had a strong relationship with his Lord and Savior and was not afraid to die.

George, who has been a resident of Clearwater for over 30 years, was born in Eldorado IL where he was a member of First Christian Church during his youth. After graduation from Eldorado High school, George toured the world while serving in the United States Navy on board the aircraft carrier USS Rendova. His diary of this trip has been enjoyed by his family. After five years of service in the navy he earned a BA degree at the University Of Southern Illinois with a major in Political Science and a Minor in Economics and Business Administration. Most of his employment years were spent in Sales Management where he received numerous awards. He took early retirement and in his senior years took a part time job where he worked at Autoway Dodge until his recent illness.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dorothy Russell of Eldorado and survived by his devoted wife, Sherry, of 46 years, his beloved children; Larry, Remington and Jennifer of Clearwater, FL., David Russell of Charlotte NC., a daughter by a previous marriage, Ann Whiteside of Chillicothe MO and Mikey, his most beloved Feline.

Special thanks to Hospice of Clearwater for their extraordinary care and support of a family not ready to accept the death of their father and husband. This remarkable group was truly a God send as they helped to create a calm atmosphere of compassion and love for everyone concerned, and one in which thoughts and feelings were able to be conveyed in a peaceful setting. We cannot speak enough about the generosity of this organization. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Hospice Foundation of the Florida Suncoast – www.thehospice.org .

The memorial service was held on Monday Jan. 28, 10 am at Bay Pines National Cemetery, Bay Pines FL.

Arrangements entrusted to Veterans Funeral Care, 15381 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, Florida 33760.
