George Sved, 91, of St. Petersburg, FL passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park.
Funeral services are at 2:00 PM on Saturday afternoon, October 13, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 301 58th Street South, St Petersburg, FL with Reverend Drew Ross. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior.
Born on November 25, 1920 in Vilkaviskis, Lithuania, he moved here from Chicago, Illinois in 1993. George studied Philosophy at Kaunas University. He was imprisoned in Stutthof concentration camp in 1944. After World War II, he studied at, and was awarded a Doctorial Degree in Philosophy from Wroclaw University in Poland. Upon moving to Chicago, Illinois;
he completed a Masters Degree in Library Science at Rosary college. He was a scholar, who loved books, art, and music. He retired from Chicago State University as an Associate Professor after 25 years of service. He translated Goethe's Faust from German into Lithuanian when he was 82 years of age."
He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 56 years, Dana Sved; two daughters; Margaret Sved-Probst and her husband, Perry of Louisville, KY and Eva Sved of St Petersburg, FL; a brother, Alexander Sved of Homers Glen, IL; and four grandchildren: Peter, Timothy, Sophia, and Maya Jannace.
