Gerald Gilbert Owens, 76 of Tavares, FL passed away on October 15, 2014 at his residence in Tavares, FL. He was born on October 11, 1938 in Galesburg, MI and moved to the Tavares, Florida in 1998 from St Joseph, Michigan. He was a business owner (Roxy’s Hamburgers in St Joseph, Michigan)) for over 20 years; graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1957; a member of American Legion; member of the ELKS Lodge and former Exalted Ruler; a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War Era and a member and attended 1st United Methodist Church in Tavares, Florida.
Preceded in death by his parents, William and Wanda (Kolodzieyczyk) Owens and a sister, Karen Owens, Gerald is survived by his loving family: his wife, Shirley Owens of Tavares, Florida; sons, Mark Owens of Michigan and Craig Owens of Paw Paw, MI; three daughters: Vickie Brennand of Tavares, Florida; Karrie Johnson of Chesterton, IN and Lacy Morrey of Porter, IN; two sisters, Deborah DeVries and Pamela Owens, both of Kalamazoo, MI; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
There will be a service at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at the 1st United Methodist Church in Tavares, Florida.

To Jerry’s family. We are friends from high school and beyond. Have many good memories of the handsome man Jerry was all his life.
jerry was my best friend and like a brother to me. I will miss him very much. we had a great many memories for the last 64 years.
I am a classmate of Jerrys. Played football, and ran track together. We enlisted in the Army on the buddy system and took our basic training together at Ft Polk La.

Our deepest condolences go to Shirley and their families. We will miss his infectious smile and personality. We were neighbors with Shirley and Jerry in Tavares until 2005 but always visited with them when we returned to Florida each year. He will be missed. Rest in peace.
