Gilberto Torres, 86, of Tampa, Florida died at the Brookside Hospice House in Palm Harbor, Florida on October 11, 2012 from natural causes and with his family at his bedside.
A native of Santuce, Puerto Rico and a local resident since 2000, when he moved here from Levittown, Puerto Rico, he was a retired frame worker for the Telephone Company of Puerto Rico; a member of Incarnation Catholic Church in Tampa, Florida and a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II. During his military career, he was awarded a World War II Victory Medal; American Theater Service Medal; 2 Overseas Bars and an Overseas Medal.
He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 61 years, Providencia Torres of Tampa, Florida; a son, Jose Torres and his wife, Norma of Levittown, Puerto Rico; his four grandchildren; Damaris Padilla, Marilyne Torres, Jose Torres and Jeffry Torres and his four great grandchildren; Sabastian Westerhuis, Ashton Urgiles, Piero Urgiles and Jeffry Torres.
Gilberto services with full military honors service is 2:30 PM, Friday, October 19, 2012 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513 with Captain Arthur Nave and the Marion County Military Honor Guard, officiating.
