Gordon G.Bednarcik Sr., 54, of St. Petersburg, FL died at the Shands at The University of Florida Hospital, Gainesville, FL on June 23, 2008 from complication of a lung implant. A native of Derby, CT and a local resident since 1979, when he moved here from Derby, CT; he was a former production worker in the sponge rubber industry; a US Army Veteran that was 100% disabled because of Vietnam War Injuries; a member of the American Legion and a member of Suncoast Cathedral in St. Petersburg, FL where he sung in the choir. Preceded in death by his mother, Marie Kapusta and a brother, Eddie Kapusta, Gordon is survived by his wife, Josephine of St. Petersburg, FL; a son, Gordon G. Bednarcik Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL; a daughter, Josephine Bednarcik of Pinellas Park, FL; his father, Gregory Bednarcik of New York; a brother, Mark Kapusta and his wife, Kim of Anacoco, LA; two sisters, Vicky Cosnor and her husband, Ron of Romney, WVA and Kathy Kapusta of St. Petersburg, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Suncoast Cathedral, 2300 62nd Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL: 33702 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM with a service at the church beginning at 11:00 AM with Pastor Howard Drewitz, to officiate. Graveside services will be at 2:30 PM, Tuesday afternoon, July 1, 2008 at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL with full military honors by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Dear Josephine and family,
I am so sorry that this world has lost Gordon. He was such an encouragement to all with whom he came in contact. I could be down in the dumps and see Gordon and think to myself, “If he can be so upbeat every time I see him, then I don’t have a thing to complain about. What faith! All is well now. No more problems or cares. He will be missed for sure.Comfort and peace be upon you and yours.

Gordon was a wonderful man. I’ll always remember him as being very kind-hearted, and for always smiling and enjoying life even when dealing with pain and adversity. My condolences to my cousins and aunt for their tragic loss. My prayers and love go out to all of you.
Josephine: Our deepest condolences to you and the family on Gordon’s passing. We all had such hopes for the lung transplant, and although we don’t know what happened, we know that it has all been in God’s hands. Gordon will be remembered as a loving servant of the Lord and all of the Veterans at Suncoast will miss him very much.

To the whole Bednarcik family,I do want to offer my sympathy and condolences.I knew Gordon really only from the choir,but honestly,we had many enjoyable times and fun together.I think we all knew that he was facing a very serious illness over the years and it was encouraging and inspiring to me when he would just put his trust in the Lord and he would tell me it would all work out. Even though I feel that just the fact that a pair of lungs became available was a miracle and answer to prayer,I still wish that Gordon could have survived to come and sing in the choir.So I just want to let you know that I am very saddened by his passing,but I believe with all my heart that he is in the Presence of the Lord and finally has total joy and rest.If you have any pressing needs right now,I encourage you to let the Suncoast Choir know as a group.
