JAQUAYS, Grant Wesley, 74, of Madiera Beach, FL (formerly of Ilion, NY) passed away peacefully at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater on August 5, 2011.
Grant was born June 27, 1937 to Mildred and Chancey Jaquays in Herkimer, NY. He attended area schools and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1954 and served until 1957. He married Shirley Boucher in Perry, GA on February 8, 1971. He was employed by G.E. for 34 years retiring in 1992. He graduated from Herkimer County Community College in 1977, earning an A.A.S. degree in accounting. He was a member of the American Legion Post 25 and served as treasurer for several years. Grant was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and would have been thrilled to know that they took the lead for first place on that Sunday night game against the Yankees.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his sons Chad (Lori) St. Petersburg, FL; Eric, Little Falls; Colin (Susan), Albany; and James (Kelly), Lockport; his daughters Michelle and Melissa, Mohawk; four grandchildren, his sister, Georgia Pohorely, California; two half brothers Paul (Janet), Little Falls; Terry (Sandra), Washington; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Chancey, step-mother Ruth Darling, son Gregory and sister Julie See.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Grant’s life to be held at the American Legion in Mohawk at 7 p.m., Saturday, August 20. Memorials can be made in Grant’s memory to the Make-A-Wish-Foundation, 5005 Campuswood Dr., E. Syracuse, NY 13057.

To the family: I was shocked to see Grant’s name in the obit this AM. Having gone to school with him in St.Johnsville,we became good friends back then. I am so sorry for your loss and you are all in my prayers. The best thing is, he is no longer suffering. My love and prayers are with you all. John

I worked with Grant for many years…and knew him after GE also. I’m very glad to have known him…..for the probably 45+ years I have…as it was always a pleasure to be around him. He had a warm and pleasant personality. I’ll miss him for sure…..A Salute to you my friend!

Dear Shirley, Chad and Lori, We were so sorry to hear that Uncle Grant passed away. I know my mom was so looking forward to finally seeing her brother again in October. Sorry to hear of Grant’s passing. I worked with Grant at GE on several programs. He was always very productive and I appreciated knowing him.
