Henry J. Balzer (Hank) was called away from us on Monday, July 20, 2009. He was 67 years of age and passed peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends.
Hank was born in Hillside, NJ and moved to Florida in 1974. He served in the Marine Corps from 1960-1964. Hank worked as a machinist until he retired at 62. He was active in the Native American culture. He participated in many Pow Wows throughout his life. Hank loved all facets of outdoor activities. You could say he was a true sportsman. Often he could be heard talking about the local gun range or calling about the next gun show. You could usually find him at his favorite gun store chatting it up with the customers as he sat sipping on his coffee and entertaining the man behind the counter. His weekly activities included going to Bay Pines and working out with his buddies in the rehab group. Hank touched many lives and cared about many people. If he wanted to know something, he asked you. However, he wasn’t afraid to tell you something either.
Left behind, are many friends and a small, but strong family. He is survived by his companion of 11 years, Deborah Hill; daughter, Elizabeth Beattie; son, James; and brothers, Herb and Harry.
A graveside service will be held at 10:45 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd.
Father, you will always have a special place in my heart and you will be thought of often.
Debi and family,
All I know is you were blessed to be his friend and family. What a nice man.
I cry for your sadness, yet I smile with remembering Hank and his YES to life ways!
Prayers and sweet thoughts are sent your way.
Hank,
We were at a pow wow this weekend and were looking for you. I came home and checked your name on internet and found your obituary. You were a great guy and your many varied interests were facinating. Rich remembers the bicycle trips you took together. My girlfriend in Tenessee has Digger and he is very happy. He has brother and sister birds and is in has a great forever home. He keeps everyone entertained! See you later. I hope you will be waiting for us in the afterlife. Pat & Rich
So sorry to hear of his passing. At age 12 Henry was my first boyfriend and I will always remember the great times we had at the roller skating rink. My condolences to his family.
