Herbert Henry "Bud" Deke, 79, of Longview, TX passed away on Wednesday morning, February 26, 2014, surrounded by family at his daughter’s home.
Born in Chicago, Illinois on March 20, 1934 to Herbert and Sophie Deke, he served proudly in the US Navy during the Korean War. His duty was to re-arm with ammunition the fleet and also the troops ashore. He served aboard the ammunition ship AE 18 for four years.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sally Jane Wade, “the Love of his Life”; four children, Sharon Flory of Lindale, Rickey Wilson of Longview, Lance Deke of Rockwall, and Michael Deke, also of Longview; sister, Judith Holcomb of Marietta, TX; 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Fellowship Bible Church, 4600 McCann Road, Longview, TX. Services will begin at 11:00 AM. Ralph and I will miss Bud. He loved the Lord, his family and his friends. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to get to know Bud & Sally. We will see each other again. Good-bye my specii friend.
Bud was a joy to be around; so full of life and joy. Our loss is heaven’s gain. Our love and prayers to his family.
I am a part of the Encore small group that your father attended at FBC. He was always a joy and encouragement in the group, and always had something to contribute. His smiling face and joyful spirit will be missed by all of us. God bless you all in the days ahead, and give you comfort and peace in knowing that he loved God dearly and is now “sheltered safe in the arms of God.”
We will miss Bud’s smile and excitement he would show to us every time he would greet us at the door on Sunday mornings we really felt the love of God in him. He truly had the ability to brighten anyone’s day.
Wyn lost his second dad last week I lost a very precious friend. We love you very much. We are available.
We now mourn the passing of a wonderful friend, great husband, and dad, and devoted Christian. My heart goes out to you all, dear sweet Sally, Mike and Ricky and the rest of your family. I looked forward to seeing Bud every Sunday. Always there with a handshake, a bear hug, and a big slap on the back. A great guy who I will miss.
Over and over we hear about Bud’s smile and hug and he had one for everyone. Oftentimes a big hearty laugh. What a blessing ad testimony to all of us. We will miss you Bud. We’ll see you again my friend.

Heaven’s gain! Bud was one of the people who
made me feel most welcome when moving to Longview and starting in a new church. I always
knew that I would get a big smile and hug on my way into church – always came just at the right time. Looking forward to seeing him in Heaven.
I will miss Bud so much he had such good stories to share in Joes bible study I will miss his laughter and his hugs.God will be with you and you family.

While we did not know Mr. Bud personally, it was evident that he was a man if great integrity & character from what his son shared. He was adored & admired by his family and that speaks volumes. We will be praying for all if you.
I feel very blessed to have known Bud and had the opportunity to visit with him ,Sally and their family, in their home on numerous occasions in days gone by. Every memory is a treasure of previous memories. Bud, you are loved by many and will be greatly missed. Rest high on that majestic mountain .

What a shock to hear this from Michael this morning. I am going to miss our almost daily correspondence via emails. I will never forget our friendship. Sail on O shipmate, fair winds and calm seas.

I remember him as a good fun guy. I can see he did well after he got home from the Navy.

Bud Deke was one of the finest Christians and men we have ever known. He loved his God, his wife, Sally, his children, and his friends with everything he had. We will miss him terribly.

I knew Bud and Sally with the Encore group. I am so sorry for your loss, but rejoice that we will see Bud again in heaven. He had a beautiful spirit and smile, and took such good care of Sally. We will see Bud again. With love and prayers.
I am his daughter Rickey and I must say that this has been the hardest journey of my life.
My Daddy was a wonderful man. He was so strong and a hard worker all his life. He loved all people. He was a dreamer who lived life to the fullest. Was he perfect? No, but in my eyes he was close. It was so hard to watch his strong body fight for life, and he fought hard, against the cancer that snuck up on us him.
Once he realized, and knew in his heart, that his son Mike and I would take care of his “bride” our Mom, only then did he let go.
He loved his Church as his second family and oh how they Loved him.
A man provides and he does it even when he’s not appreciated, or respected, or even loved because he’s a man. I will always love and respect you Daddy.
