Born Feb. 11, 1929 and went home Feb. 17, 2012
Between those dates he lived a long, fruitful, and beloved life. The length was 83 years. His early life was filled with his love of sports, the highlight of which being football at St Pete High where he holds a rushing record to this day. While in the Army he rose to the rank of PFC as the athletic director, conditioner, and massage therapist for soldiers of both sexes! After the Army came his 31 year "stint" with the post office beginning in Palmdale, Calif. While there he was our postal carrier (and I had my first crush at age 5). In Palmdale and St Pete he fished, played fast pitch softball (pitcher), and received numerous awards for his bowling with buddies from the St Pete post office on the Pony Express League.
The fruitful years started in 1952 with the birth of his son David Cameron Thompson Sr. (the "Rock" of a family of Firefighters) and with wife Libby (his wife of over 40 years) David fathered four grandchildren: David Cameron Jr., identical twins Jack Allen and Robert, and Rebecca (Johnson). In turn those four have been blessed to create ten great-grandchildren. David Jr. and wife Sherry have Tori, Cam III, Cody, and Makayla. Jack and wife Shanna (everyone's momma) will be blessed. Robert and wife Misty have Jenny and identical twins Autumn and Brittany. Rebecca with husband Rodney Johnson has Olivia, Corbin, and Gavin. In 1969 Jack married my mother Donna J. and became my "Poppa" from that day forward. For my part I added three grandchildren and four and a half great-grandchildren to the list. Eric Barnett with children Kasey and Haley, Tracy Barnett (named Poppa Jack G-Pa) with wife April have Gabriel (Gabe) and Amelia (Mia) and another on the way (?), and Angel Gilmour. That covers the fruitful part pretty well.
The beloved section is covered in the other two by his many close friends (Army, co-workers, fishing, bowling, joke telling buddies, etc.) and the "family" (both named as well as extended) who admired, cherished, and loved him with all our hearts.
I wanted you to have a small glimpse of the very special man that will be sorely missed by all who met him. Thank you for your time.
Micky J. Thompson

You will be missed by many, you were a dedicated friend and fellow postal worker. I will see you in the future, rest in peace my friend.
To Uncle Jack, the eldest brother of 2 that have passed before you, you have seen your father, mother, and brothers pass on and now you will be with them in spirit. I will miss you as well as the others.
I cherish my memories of Uncle Jack in my life as I was growing up in California and Florida. Uncle Jack was generous, a good referee in life’s lessons, and loved his family. I remember fondly, the trips to Tennessee; Cousin David would come to Florida for summer vacations. He made sure to see family there-cousins, Aunts & Uncles.
Love to all, Mary Lou
May Jehovah God’s Love give comfort and sustain all in loss of our loved one.

I knew Jack as a little girl when he lived with his grandmother my great Aunt Della. Over the years we lost tack of each other [he was 7 years older, but about 10 years ago we reconnected with a love of Family History.I am so sorry to hear of his death; he was a good friend as well as relative and our shared interest in genealogy brought us close together, even though we never met again. I am sure he will be missed by all. “Nikki” Nickell
