Jackie R. Jenkins, 70, died on February 2, 2010 at his home in Seminole Florida. He was born in Cincinnati Ohio on December 16, 1939. He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17, choosing to become an Aviation Mechanic. In February 1963 he married the love of his life, Rosalie Marie Pica. Shortly after marriage she became pregnant with the first of two children. While stationed in Rota, Spain Rosalie and Jack gave birth to Juanita in November 1964. In 1966 they had a son, Jackie Jenkins II born in Portsmouth, Va.

 

While serving on board the USS Forrestal he was involved in fighting the legendary fire in July of 1967 when a rocket accidentally fired from an F-4 Phantom streaked across the deck hitting a 400 gallon belly fuel tank on a another aircraft. Jack retired from the Navy in 1985 after requesting to be transferred to the fleet reserve.

 

He is survived by his Son Jack, Daughter in law Robin – Seven grandchildren Kathy, Robert, Richard, Elizabeth, Amanda, Antonita and Antonio – Three great children Alexis, Jon-Jon and Jackson.

 

He will be buried with full Military Honors at Bay Pines National Cemetery on February 19, 2010 at 1:30 pm

 

He will be missed!
