James Vincent Sullivan
15 Sept 1939 – 7 July 2009

James was born to Helen (Doloughty) and Walter Sullivan in New York, New York. he was the oldest of the couples three children; James , Claire, and Robert. after High School James joined the United States Navy and was proud to have served aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42). he continued his service in the Navy and the Naval Reserve for 32 years until his retirement.

James Married Lucy Early on 11 May 1968 and their family grew as they welcomed 5 children into the world together. James born in 1969, Patrick in 1970, Brian in 1973, Loretta (Lorie) in 1974, and Kevin in 1979. The family moved to Pinellas Park, Florida in 1973 from Jackson Heights, New York. While in New York James worked for Con Edison and was hired by Florida Power when the family moved. He would later leave Florida power to work for the Pinellas County Parks Department spending most of that time at Ft. DeSoto Park. He was active with the Pinellas Park American Little League and his children’s high school sports.

James and Lucy would divorce in 1998 and he later met Patricia McKnight who would remain with him until his death. James was the Grandfather to Ashley and Amber from James, Alice from Patrick, Abbey from Brian, and Mason from Lorie. Mason loved to call his Grampa from Nebraska every day.

Among the many groups and clubs he belonged to included the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Eagles, DAV, and the VFW, but he was most active in the AMVETS and crew reunions for the Roosevelt.

James is survived by his sister Claire of Largo, his children; James of Madeira Beach, Patrick of Seminole, Brian and wife Irene of Clearwater, Lorie and husband Larry Ties of Gibbon, Nebraska and Kevin of Pinellas Park. Other survivors include Ms. McKnight, his Grandchildren, Nieces, and Nephews.

James was proceeded in death by his Parents, brother Robert, and daughter-in-law Sue, wife of Patrick. his family will always be greatful to the staff of Bay Pines Veterans Medical Center especially the Staff of Ward 5C (Hospice). you made his passing easier for both James and his loved ones.

There will be a graveside service for family and friends at 6PM Sunday July 19th at the Bay Pines National Cemetary Pavilion. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations to any Veterans groups charities be made in his honor.
