Jean Morabito Plateroti, 78, of Clearwater, went home to be with the Lord, May 15, 2011. She was born into this world on October 1, 1932, to Giovanna and Carmelo Morabito in East Patchogue, NY. Jean had three brothers, Frank, Vincent, and Paul. She also had a sister, Madeline Scatigno.
In 1948 Jean married her life-long love, Rudy L. Plateroti. They were married for 59 years when he passed away in 2007. Together they raised five children, Angela Maria Baker-Bridge, Salvatore Frank, Jo Ann Madeline Lo Meo, Lu Gina Gioia Hunt, and Perriann Sally Furnival. They also had ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Jean and her husband owned and operated Gioia Garments in Patchogue, NY from 1962—1971. The women’s clothing they produced was sold in many high-end stores throughout the country.
In 1972 Jean and Rudy established Plateroti’s Italian Cafeteria in Largo, FL where they introduced NY style Italian food to the Tampa Bay area. In 1976 she co-founded Plateroti’s Italian Gourmet at 1621 Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard in Clearwater, FL with her husband and their son, Salvatore. With a growing demand for Italian sweets to compliment their catered events, Jean launched Charisma Cakery next door to Plateroti’s. Her wedding and special occasion cakes, as well as Italian cookies and pastries, were not only delicious but memorable.
After retiring from fulltime business ventures, Jean launched Mrs. P’s Haven of Refuge Internet Ministry, reaching thousands of people every day with Christian music, stories, poems, and an International prayer ministry right up until the time of her death. Her passion was serving God, sharing the Gospel message, and encouraging others. Her heart and her home were always opened to everyone. Jean’s local home church was First Assembly of God in Clearwater, FL.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Manna Ministries International, P.O. Box 1275, Bristol, RI 02809 (please mark check/envelope: For Plateroti Home).

It was an honor for me to conduct the funeral for Mrs. P. She, and her husband Rudy were focused on one thing, taking as many people to heaven with them as they could. An orphanage funded by a deli! The Plateroti children have a great heritage.
May the Lord comfort the hearts of Jean’s dear children and their families. Rudy & Jean’s love for each other, family, the Lord and His work was so evident. Today’s memorial service was so beautiful. It was a joy to be a part of today’s celebration of a Godly woman.
Dear Sal, Our thoughts are with you old friend as you reflect on all the wonderful times with your mother. What an outstanding aldy she was and her commitment to our Lord. I remember when you first started attending First AG and how on fire you were for the Lord. Now I know by reading your mother’s story, that you were a reflection of her. God Bless you Sal and your family. May the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, be with you.
Sal,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I am so sorry for your loss.

I remember going to the italian deli on gulf to bay to order my pastries for the holidays. Rudy and Jean would tell me, Linda its not time to order wait another week. I was so anticipated on making my order with fresh clams, mozzeralla and garlic soup to have for my guests during the holidays. Jean would say to me, its ok, we can make the order you pick it up. I will miss her smiling face and her loving nature on the italian culture. I hope that the children will continue to bring the best italian goods to the community, but the only person there will be missed will be Jean. I know that she went to be with Rudy, but she will be missed in all the hearts of everyone she touched. We loved her like our own family. Since she too relocated from NY to the hot sunny Florida, we will always have the best food that came from Platerotis
Thank you Jean for opening up this deli, we needed it more than anyone can say here in this city of Clearwater Fl.. We will also miss you, with your italian singing too. Thanks for being there for my family in the way that we missed from home, in Babylon.
We wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to Jean’s family for the loss of their mother. Judging by her past activities she was certainly an extremely active and well liked person. We also extend our condolences on the previous loss of Rudy, whom we knew from the gourmet shop they operated in Clearwater.
So sorry to hear about your great loss. Mrs. P will live on forever in our hearts. My thoughts and prayers go out to you in these trying times. Mrs. P is in God’s Hands now!
