Jerry Price

Veterans Funeral Care Jerry Price

Jerry Price, 71, of Clearwater, Florida passed away in his home on Monday, August 1, 2011, peacefully with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife Trudy; two daughters, Sara Price and Amy Turton; Amy's husband, Josh and their two daughters, Delaney and Emily; and his brother, Denny and wife, Margie of Norfolk.  He has numerous close family members including many loving nieces and nephews.

Jerry was born in Pasadena, CA, grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska, married Trudy (Toay), and moved to Chicago following their marriage. He then started working for Eastman Kodak, moving to Wichita, KS, Omaha, NE and finally to Houston, TX for twenty years. In 2001 Jerry and Trudy moved back to Norfolk to help care for his mother-in-law, Betty Toay, and his uncle, George Tannehill.  While there, Jerry did substitute teaching which he loved.

After being paralyzed in Norfolk, Jerry and Trudy moved to Florida, where he received exceptional spinal cord care through the James A. Haley V.A. hospital in Tampa. After six years of battling all the many complications that arose from the paralysis, he was ready to move on to his next journey and join those that preceded him in death, his mother, Helen; father, Bert; baby grandson, Howard; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, several uncles and aunts, and grandparents. Jerry was loved by many and was a kind, caring man with a sense of humor that made everyone gravitate to him. He will be greatly missed.

His love was his family and friends, music, history, reading, and poetry. He had many favorite poems, the following by Omar Khayyam most appropriate: “And, as the Cock crew, those who stood before The Tavern shouted — "Open then the Door! You know how little while we have to stay, And, once departed, may return no more."
