Joseph D. Pope, 94, of Dunedin, Florida passed away on August 25, 2012 at home.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 31, 2012 at Suncoast Bible Presbyterian Church, 975 County Road 1, Palm Harbor, Florida 34683 with Reverend Morris C. McDonald, DD, Pastor to officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Graveside services are 3:00 PM, Friday afternoon, August 31, 2012 at Curlew Hill Memory Gardens, 1750 Curlew Road, Palm Harbor, Florida 34682 with Reverend McDonald and the Pinellas County Military Honor Guard, to officiate.
Joseph was born on October 4, 1917 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania. He served in the US Army during World War II and moved to the local area in 1959. A retired Vice President for Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a Vice President with 1st Federal of Tarpon Springs, Florida, Joseph was an Elder at Suncoast Bible and a Violin player. He loved playing the violin in church, playing golf and traveling. Joseph played in the orchestra in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and in the Clearwater Symphony for 25 years.
Joseph was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His parents, Lyman S. Pope and Jessie Pearl Raymond; his first wife, Dorothy along with his sister, Thelma Audrey Pope preceded him in death. Joseph is survived by his wife, Nancy Pope of Dunedin, FL; his children: Cynthia Repasky and her husband, Mark of Tallahassee, FL; Catherine Barnes and her husband, Bill of Monticello, Florida; Charles Lechner and his wife, Kathy of Jacksonville, Florida; Thomas Lechner and his wife, Jennifer of Clearwater, Florida and Robert Lechner and his wife, Fara of Greenwood, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Piano Fund at Suncoast Bible Presbyterian Church, 975 County Road 1, Palm Harbor, Florida 34683 in the memory of Joseph D. Pope.
