Veterans Funeral Care Lacy Thompson, Sr.

In the early hours on the morning of May 29, 2009 our Heavenly Father dispatched a band of angels to Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL to usher home the soul of Lacy Matthew Thompson, Sr. at the age of 81; a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Lacy was born on December 4, 1927 in Burlington, NC to Mack Thompson and Delacy Isley Thompson. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a Master Brick Mason by trade and was renown throughout Florida. When he was no longer able to physically participate on the job he was sought out for his engineering skills. He loved doing crossword puzzles and listening to sports radio and watching sports on televison.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Mamie Thompson; Four children: a devoted daughter, Deborah L. Thompson; son, Lacy M. Thompson, Jr. (aka Shuntel); Iris B. (Abner) Brown, all of Albany, NY, and daughter, April L. Thompson of Daytona Beach, FL.; One sister, Coral Lee Thompson of Burlington, NC, 14 grandchildren; Stephanie Bowden of Syracuse, NY, Lee-Ann Bowden, Tyiesha (Lonnie) Ford, Larri Kittell, Laci & Ivon Thompson, Lekedia (Charles) Rodges, Ebony (Steven) Jones and Iman Culler all of Albany, NY, Trachell, Antonio, Antavis, Tracy and Jeranisha Thompson of Daytona Beach, FL, 14 great-grandchildren; Stephon Bowden of Buffalo,NY, Edward Brown III of Syracuse, Lyniesha & Iyanna Robinson, Jahsana Mosley, SaRaya, Shayla & Virkwan Hickman, Xiana Wiley, Alanis & Alicia Rodges, Nazair & Chyne Jones, Makai Thompson all of Albany, NY, 3 great-great-grandchildren; Nyessah Brown of Syracuse, NY, Madison Bowden of Buffalo, NY and Davon Royal of Albany, NY and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Also left to cherish his memory is a loyal & devoted friend, Leroy Hunter and loving caring friends, Lisa Mitchell of Tampa, FL and Andrea Robinson of Clearwater, FL and other friends too numerous to name. Lacy was predeceased by his parents, Mack Thompson and Delacy Isley Thompson, 2 sons, Isaac Bouldin and infant, William Sheldon Thompson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Union Missionary Baptist Church, 3 Morton Avenue, Albany, NY. A full honor military burial will take place at 10:00AM on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, NY.

The family expresses their gratitude to the staff and doctors at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, Tampa General Hospital, the staff & administration at the Ybor Healthcare & Nursing Facility and the Heartstone Assisted Living Facility at Carrollwood in Tampa, FL. Deepest heartfelt love and appreciation goes to Dawn Grady at Heartstone, who is truly an “EarthAngel”. To Mr. Adam Plutchok of the Veterans Funeral Care in Clearwater, FL, thank you for your compassionate service during this difficult time.
