Leo Andrew Walter, Jr., age 60, passed away on February 1, 2011 at the James A. Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, FL. He was born on May 19, 1950 in Elyria, Ohio to the late Leo A. and Olevia Catherine (Schaefer) Walter, Sr. He was a native of Northern Ohio and a Largo, Florida resident since 1999.
Leo served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a wonderful and loving father and grandfather. He was also a postal worker, fireman for Carlisle Township Fire Department, and a self-employed businessman. He enjoyed his grandkids, animals and was a supporter of the Disabled American Veterans, National MS Society and Humane Society.
He was very loved and was never happier than when he was with his grandkids. He had a great sense of humor and loved animals, especially Max and “Wishes”. He will be extremely missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by 3 daughters, Jamie Walter of Pineville, LA formerly of Medina, OH; Kristi Walter of Wimberley, TX; and Kelly and husband Cody Stevens of Wimberley, TX; 1 sister Linda (Walter) Bliss of LaGrange, OH; and 5 grandchildren Joseph Greller, Luke Townsend, Kylie Walter, Michael Scislo and Shalynn Stevens.
Leo will be cremated and interned at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. There will be a memorial service with military honors for family and friends in the spring in Elyria, Ohio. Freedom is not Free

There is a price we pay for freedom,For it is not truly free,But rather paid for by the contributions of veterans
To buy our liberty
As their blood drains from their body and runs like a river through the grass
Over the years it’s forgotten, war is placed in our past
I don’t think we all realize the importance veterans play
as they voluntarily serve America each and every day
We should honor the veterans for they act like a shield
Protecting us from danger, keeping America healed.
So if you would take a second to commemorate,You will instantly see-We owe veterans our gratitude For they are the reason we are free
Thank You for your sacrifices my brother in law! Rest in Peace and know that you are loved, gone but not ever forgotten!

FOOT PRINTS IN THE SAND
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed He was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from His life. For each scene He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand. One belonging to Him and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of His life flashed before Him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of His life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of His life.
This really bothered Him and He questioned the LORD about it. LORD you said that once I decided to follow you, you’d walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don’t understand why when I needed you most you would leave me.
The LORD replied, my precious, precious child, I Love you and I would never leave you! During your times of trial and suffering when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.
You are with Grandma & Grandpa now =) They will take good care of you!!
Thank you for all of the Good Times and the Bad Ones. It made us grow stronger,it made us realize what love and friendship meant. I promised to never leave you as you did the same but God wanted you to go home. He knew you suffered so much here on earth, now you have a whole new body that will never know pain or sorrow. Everyone left the hospital as you were dying, I stayed by your side as promised, I held you as the angels came to get you that morning. It was lonely and cold after 5:03am you looked so peaceful as you looked towards heaven. I then knew you were with God, Max, Wishes and family. I hope the other side of that Rainbow Bridge is beautiful as the person you were to all of us. You are gone from earth but here in spirit. Love you, Miss you!!!
