Sgt. Ty Mitcheltree, 65, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away on March 28 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was married for 44 years to Frani Blue Mitcheltree. They have three children- Nannette (spouse-Michael), Ty, Jr., and Jennifer (spouse- Marcus). He is also the proud grandfather of three girls- Glory, Liberty, and Promise.
He was born in Williamsport, PA. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1973. He joined the Marine Corp at 17 and served in Vietnam. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and various other medals. He kept in touch with his Brothers by attending their military reunions and considered it a ministry to help other veterans obtain their military benefits.
He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who rode and built bikes and enjoyed being with others who had this same interest.
After Ty had his grandchildren, he founded a non-profit charity to help Wounded Warriors and military families. He gave to many organizations and charities such as:
Operation Appreciation, Special Olympics, Feed the Children, Salvation Army, Korean War Museum, DAV, Wounded Warriors, Native American Association and Metropolitan Ministries.
Ty’s life is personified in this military quote his wife received from a fellow Marine in a sympathy card.
“Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about his religion. Respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love you life, perfect your life. Beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and of service to your people. When your time comes to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home.”
Semper Fidelis!
