Lorenzo G. Guzman, M.D., passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014 , he was 97 years old. Lorenzo was a proud Veteran of World War II, having served under the command of General George S. Patton in the United States Tank Corps as a gunner, for which he was awarded a Silver Star and 3 Purple Hearts. Utilizing his G.I. Bill, Lorenzo studied medicine and became a distinguished surgeon with the United States Public Health (Captain-USPHS-Retired). He had a medical career spanning 30 years, serving many of those years as Chief of Surgery at the Marine Hospital located on Staten Island, New York. He believed in learning and reading throughout life and continued to study medicine as well as practice languages was fluent in six) well into his retirement years. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lucrecia Guzman; his son, Philip Guzman, Esq.; daughter in law, Ina Guzman; grandson, Matthew Guzman; daughter, Theresa Guzman-Kempa and granddaughter, Tamara Prior. Catholic Funeral Mass service will be held on Friday, August 29, 2014 @ 10:00 AM at Corpus Christie Catholic Church in Temple Terrace with Father Jose Colina, to officiate. This is very late but l believe dr. Guzman was my mother’s cousin. She was Zaida Baez from San Germán, Puerto Rico.
