Never wanting to make a scene, Marie Tuohy slipped peacefully away to be with her Lord on May 2nd, 2009. Marie joins her husband, John, who departed in 2006 after 55 years of blissful marriage. Her four children and nine grandchildren will greatly miss her, but look forward to a joyous reunion in heaven. Marie was born in Boston but lived in St. Petersburg for more than 50 years.
To Know Marie was to love Marie. She was a kind, loving, generous, shy, humble, bright, funny, compassionate, and faith filled woman of God. Her greatest joy was her family, and she loved her husband with all her heart and soul. They were inseparable and happiest when in each other’s company; and it truly was love at first sight. After just three dates, dad proposed, mom said yes, and their wonderful 55 year journey began with a honeymoon to Florida.
When not doting on and caring for her family, Marie was busy discovering another love – Art. Her specialty was painting beautiful little birds on porcelain plates. She was always overly critical of her work and terribly embarrassed when admirers would heap on the praise.
While her physical gift was art, her spiritual gift was that of prayer. If ever there was a woman who could, “ask and ye shall receive”, it was Marie. No family gathering or phone call concluded without a closing prayer asking for health, safety, and happiness! She deeply loved Jesus and was a wonderful example of Christian living. This world has lost a fabulous human being, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; but heaven has received a very special Angel.
Mom, we love you and miss you. Thank you for your selfless love and devotion. We can’t wait to see you and dad again!
Visitation will be 3 PM, May 7, 2009, Thursday, at the Suncoast Catherdal, 2300 62nd Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL. Services will begin at 4:30 PM. Burial at Bay Pines VA National Cemetery, Bay Pines, FL will be at a later date.

The members of the St. Petersburg China Painters Guild extend their sincere condolences to Marie’s family. Although we have not seen Marie at meetings for quite awhile, we have missed her and often speak of her.
Just a few weeks ago I was reading Marie’s instructions on how to “line” a hand-painted porcelain box. Marie did such beautiful work lining her painted boxes and was an accomplished porcelain painter.

To all Marie’s family– I was so sad to read of her death. I will always remember her– she was one of my mostfavorite patients. I would look forward to seeing her at each visit.. She was always smiling ,joking and always saying how proud she was of her family. And her atistic pieces– gorgeous! I would tell her it was a gift from God and that I wished I could do something like that and she would smile and say anyone can do it. I will remember her always with much love. I am thankful I had the pleasure of knowing Marie….she was a funny, smart, witty and wonderfully caring lady….she made me and my family feel just as if we were her family, always. She was always smiling and always interested in what you were doing. I know she is at peace now reunited with her husband who she so dearly missed. Hi Momma and Daddy, it’s been exactly one month to the
day since you two were reunited. Mom, I can’t tell you how much I miss talking to my very “Best Friend” every day! I love you so much, and although my head knows you are happy and healthy with Daddy in Heaven, my heart breaks every day not being able to hug or kiss you one more time! You have sent me many signs that your spirit is still with me though. Whether you present yourself as a beautiful singing bird,a naughty little squirrel, a lone turkey, or even a newborn kitten (Mazie P. Kitty) plucked from the street gutter, I know you’re looking down on us from Heaven! It still hurts so deep inside, but keep on talking to us Mom!
As Daddy always said, God loves you and so do I! We miss you with all our hearts, and can’t wait to see you, Daddy, and Little Granny again one day!
