Mary D. Correll
Born July 21, 1922, in Prague, Czech; loved gardening (had a rich-green thumb), loved dogs (I’m sure Teddy Bear is with her now), loved the outdoors (camping, fishing, swimming – sometimes in that order when having to retrieve her pole! – water-skiing, bird-watching – even named her favorites & fed them hotdogs!); loved bowling; & was a wonderful cook, especially old fashioned recipes (& especially Czech dishes) – that is, anything but desserts – always drop the turkey on the floor for flavor!. She was bilingual, & when very angry, her admonishments were in loud Czech (like the time we decorated the bathroom’s "bland" white walls with iodine). During WWII she worked in a munitions factory (was our very own Rosie the Riveter). Her husband of 68 years, Paul W. Correll, Sr., joined his “sweetie” in death on May 4, 2009. She is lovingly survived by her three children: Joyce Pessolana and her husband, Jim, Paul W. Correll, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, and Veronica Correll and her partner, Diana; grandchildren Jonathan and Jennifer Correll; her brother, John Dzamko and his wife, Louise; and numerous nieces and nephews. Send no flowers – instead, plant a tree or flowers in her memory (she did not like cut flowers)! She will be so missed! No one else I know names their visiting blue herons & cranes – so I name my hummingbirds, like Mom would!
Memorial services will be celebrated on Monday, May 18, 2009 from Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida
Paul and family, my deepest sympathy on your loss. Your words made them so real to me. Well done. God bless. John.
I love you, Mom – miss you so much!
Mom…you so much loved your plants and flowers here on earth and I’m sure you are now tending gardens in a very special place. I’m also sure you have Dad moving rose bushes around so that they can better catch the sun. With fond memories, love and eternal thanks, your son, Paul Jr.
