IN LOVING MEMORY OF MATHIAS JOHN BUHR, known to many friends as Sandy, who passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Melech Hospice House in Tampa FL. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rochelle Efron Buhr; his sons, Corbin and Collin; brother, Michael and wife, Julie; nieces Susan Higginbotham, Christine Peters, Cynthia Kissel and Shannon Lipp and their families; sister, Margaret; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Irving and Jean Efron.
John was born in Minneapolis MN June 24, 1945. He attended Incarnation Parochial School, Robbinsdale HS and University of Minnesota. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1963 and served on the carrier USS Enterprise and survived three tours of duty in Vietnam. He was discharged from the Navy in 1967 with a rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class.
John and Rochelle married in 1979 in Green Bay WI. They lived in Wisconsin until they moved to the Miami FL area in 1985 where they raised their family. John worked for the Dade County Parks and Recreation Department and served as a Security Officer when he became ill in 2006. Following surgery for a brain tumor he was forced to retire due to disability. In 2006 they moved to Tampa to be closer to family while recuperating.
We will always remember John as the life of the party! We will cherish the memory of his wacky sense of humor and the stories of his many “misadventures”. Most of all, we will remember him as a wonderful husband, father, brother, son-in-law, uncle and friend.
A memorial service is planned for a later date in Miami. Donations to LifePath Hospice in Tampa or a charity of your choice.
