Myra M. Smalley, 92 of the Cypress Palms, Largo, FL, went to her heavenly home on February 26, 2014.
Born in Fraser, Michigan September 23, 1921, raised in Fraser/Utica, Michigan, she married Robert L. Smalley August 2, 1941, helped to build there first home in 1942 and became a army wife in 1943 moving to Mississippi to be with Bob while he was attending an Air Force Training Academy, she returned to Michigan and daughter Roberta was born in 1943, Bob returned from overseas in 1946 and Son Charles was born in 1949.
While being a home maker, she also was very active being a Volunteer First Grade Teacher at Gethsemane Lutheran School Brooklyn Michigan, also a grade school Room Mother, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and Assistant Girl Scout Troop Leader and for many years a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies Aide Circle. After her children grew up, she became active in managing all of the social activities for husband Roberts businesses, entertaining customers, planning parties and other business related events.
In the winter of 1966 she and Bob bought a vacation condo in Hallandale, Florida, where she spent the winters and Bob commuted between Michigan and Florida. In 1971 Bob retired and they sold their home and condo relocating to Clearwater Florida, all of her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were now in Clearwater and she enjoyed watching them all grow up.
Bob returned to Michigan in 1982 as President of his former companies, they maintained an apartment there and she commuted between Florida, Michigan and Arkansas where his Companies were located until he retired again in 1984 and they returned home to Florida.
She and Bob loved cruising and visiting the Islands of the Caribbean, South America and Mexico, they also spent several years traveling all of the 48 states; they were active members of Bethel Lutheran Church of Clearwater for many years.
Her survivors are Robert L. Smalley, husband of 72 years; son Charles and wife Rebecca of Clearwater; daughter Roberta and husband Dr. Richard Kidd of Belleair Beach; granddaughter Richele and husband Dr. Donald Collins and great granddaughters Reagan and Kendal Collins of Belleair Beach; grandson Robert Kidd and wife Julie and great grandson Brandon Kidd of Belleair Beach; sister Eva Schans of Tawas City, MI; Goddaughter Jody Ewbank of Harbor Springs, MI. Myra was preceded in death by her brother Jim Beier of Caro, MI.
