Lt. Col. Oliver E. Carpenter USArmy Ret., 92, of Belleair Beach, FL passed away July 29, 2010.
O.E. was born in Oak Park, IL on Sept. 9, 1917 and resided for many years in Elmwood Park, IL. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks and the “Seventies”. He was a member of the Reserve Officers Assoc. and was a retired Fire Commissioner for Belleair Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Judith Laura Roberts; his son, Richard “Dick” (Kathleen); 3 grandchildren, Dean Carpenter, Dawn (Jeff) Samet, and Joyce (Eric) Larson; 6 great granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son William “Bill” and brother, Robert.
Viewing will be at Monday, August 2nd at First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks at 10:00 AM with Services following at 11:00 AM.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 3 – 9 PM on Thursday, August 5th at Countryside Funeral Home, 333 So. Roselle Road, Roselle, IL 60172 (630) 529-5751. Services will follow at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 6, 2010 at the funeral home with interment and military honors at Mt. Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 651 W. Washington Blvd., Ste. 400, Chicago, IL 60661.
Oliver was a pleasure to visit while in hospital. He was a gentleman and interesting to chat with.I am sorry that I had not known him before. May God bless each of you with HIS comfort.
