Osvaldo Monserrate Zapata-Garcia, 74, of Town & Country, died Oct. 8, 2010.
Born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, he moved here in 1978 from San Juan. He retired as owner of La Fonda Restaurant and was a member of Incarnation Catholic Church. He enjoyed cooking and cooked for the 1978 Chapionship Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Bandits football teams. He was also an US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War earning the rank of Airman First Class.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Nyrva; 2 sons, Carlos and Jose (Katie) Zapata; 9 grandchildren: Jessica, Gabriel, Michelle, Caleb, Hailey, Daelyn, Ann Marie, Joshua, Margaret, and John; and a great granddaughter, Lily.
A Mass for the Repose of his Soul was celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Incarnation Catholic Church, 5124 Gateway Drive, Tampa, FL with Father Diego Ossa officiating as Celebrant.
Full military honors and graveside services were held at 2:30 PM on Friday, October 15, 2010 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513, with Marion County Military Honors Team, to officate.
