Perl E. McGathey, 81, of Largo, Florida passed away June 24, 2011. He was born in Logan, Ohio on March 19, 1930, the son of the late Perl D. and Thelma Miller McGathey.
He attended local schools, and graduated from Carbon Hill High School. Perl served in the US Air Force in England from 1948-53. Following his military commitment, he was employed by Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co. in Mansfield, OH for 30 years, and, after moving to Florida, by Kanes Furniture for 13 years.
Mr. McGathey is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Arlene Rosser McGathey; his sons: James (Cynthia) and Jay (Damaris). He is survived by brothers; Robert, Donald, Bill (Barbara), and Wayne (Jan). Perl is survived by grandchildren: Allan (Lesley), Cassandra (Nathan), Amy, Amanda, and Alex, and great-grandchildren: Aydan, Makayla, Sophia, and Gracie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 1 PM, at Park Place Wesleyan Church, 4400 70th Ave N, Pinellas Park. A private interment will be at Bay Pines National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bay Pines VA Hospice, c/o VAHCS BAY PINES, Hospice Unit Ward 4B, PO Box 5005, Bay Pines, FL 33744.

I am so proud to say that Perl Mcgathey is my dad. Dad was an honorable man that loved and cared for his family. You will be missed but never forgotten. The valuable life lessons you taught me will benefit me for a lifetime. I love you dad.

We are greatly sadened but still joyful for the legacy of love that he left for his family and give thanks many times a day that he received Jesus Christ as his Savior and he has peace and great joy in Heaven with our God. We mourn but look forward to the day in eternity when we will all be together again. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. I miss you Perl Edward. Get ready for our glad reunion party! SAM
