Preston B. Johnson, 82, of Brooksville, FL passed away on June 26, 2014 at Sturgill Hospice Care Center in Brooksville, FL.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Beverley B. Johnson; sister, Bobbie Parnell; five children, Ron Johnson, Mark Johnson, Gregg Johnson, Vicki Burton, and Becky Burton Pritchard; seven grandchildren, Jesse Johnson, Jenny Johnson Edwards, Gina Johnson, Nichole Johnson Delatte, Danielle Johnson, Rachel Pritchard and Lindsey Pritchard; six great-grandchildren, Eliza Johnson, Cheyanne Johnson, Serenity Johnson, Lucinda Edwards, Nadia Delatte and Ryleigh-Anne Delatte; and his beloved cocker spaniel, Angel.
The son of J. Ed Johnson and Gladys Johnson, Preston was born in Benson, NC and graduated from Benson High School, He received his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree, with honors, from North Carolina State University in 1958, received his Master of Science degree from State in 1962, and his Ph.D in Philosophy from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1966. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, was an assistant professor at VPI in Blacksburg, Va for 4 years, and an associate professor at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va for 13 years.
Preston left Old Dominion University in 1979 to be an independent Professional Engineer and contracted with companies such as NASA until his retirement. After living for over 20 years in Virginia Beach, Va, he and Beverley moved to Brooksville, Fl in 1996 to enjoy their retirement by golfing and traveling in their motorhome. They had many adventures as they traveled, including cross country trips to Canada and Alaska. Preston also formed his own company, Engineering Designs, and kept busy inventing during his retirement.
Interment will be private at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fl. Memorial donations in Preston's name would be appreciated to HPH Hospice, 12242 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34613, 352-544-1181, http://hph.hospice.org/.

I just this moment found out Preston passed. Fighting through the tears. This man LITERALLY saved my life. Not for him I would be dead. He was a great man. One of the best. So sad to find he’s gone.
